Im thinking of removing the 40 pedal ***embly and z bar in my 36 Sedan and going with the simpler 39 ***embly like I should have from the get go. Has anyone tried the new 39 pedals from Drake yet? Are they a quality unit or marginal off shore stuff? I dont have issue with rebuilding an original Henry ***embly if necessary but the new one would save me some labor and possibly some cash. Thanks, Mitch.
The set I saw at Hershey looked great. The prices people want for originals are crazy. I paid $150.00 for mine and had to rebush them.
Thats what I was wondering also. Maybe some one thats with Bob Drake will chime in and fill us in on the quality and origin of the pedals. If not I will buy a original set and fix em up. Mitch.
they are probably fine , but if the Drakes are actually cast that would not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling....i'd be looking for originals
I think the 40 pedal design is far superior. You don't need the steady rods with them. You don't get clutch chatter. I would certanly rebush the pedals you have. It is easy to do.
I have a Drakes repop, they look great but I to would like to know for sure if there cast or forged to know if they can be altered somewhat. An oldtimer once said take a grinder to an area and see what color the sparks are BUT I have forgotten what color was what, anybody know? Just found this info on the net; "The spark test to identify cast steel from cast iron is very easy to do, when you grind if there is lots of sparks long and bright yellowish it is steel, if they are shorter and more on the red orange color it is cast iron"
That is exactly why I asked the question earlier. Typically if you are using '39 pedals in an earlier ch***is the clutch pedal will need to be reformed. The originals can be heated and bent, I don't think the cast units would work.
If they are cast they are probably ductile iron wich will bend before breaking like grey iron, but no still wouldnt be able to heat and bend them or weld on them....unless thier cast steel....
