The issue of the no title is a BIG deal areound my area. A rig in that condition without a title would go for about $500 on a good day.
so its only worth 500? really? i never see these for sale here. anyways i guess you guys know. i would have thought the windows where worth 500 alone.
I've owned five of these pickups and it is hard to buy one with good cab corners for less than a thousand dollars in the Midwest. With rusted out cab corners you can find for less than that if you are patient. This one appears to be a large truck cab (short running boards) with the large wheel well openings. It also looks pretty rough and can't really see the cab corners. Needing correct fenders and boards would probably put the price at $5-700 max.
Bill of sale is worthless anyway, doesn't add anything to the sale. And s10 frame I wouldn't use. See if u can do 1200-1500. And if there are non near you for sale, just think, how much would u sell it for?? Other than that it looks straight and looks like a great start. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
large truck cab? not as good? this is my first time looking into this style truck..thanx for all this
Greetings! The large front wheel openings and short running boards means that it's a big truck (1 ton or better) cab on a pickup (1/2 or 3/4 ton) chassis. To make it right you'd have to replace the front fenders and find a good set of pickup running boards. Pass.
Eastern Canada would be more than western, out here in the west you'd find way better and for less. I wouldn't buy that one at all.
I'm not sure whose eyes are seeing correctly, but I do not think those are "big truck" front fenders! Looks like standard 1/2 or 3/4 ton fender to me. The short(ened) running board is not conclusive evidence of anything except it's short now. Also do not be fooled by the cab corners. They can look very good UNTIL you strip the paint and find the zillions of pin holes. One would be better served assuming any of these old trucks will need cab corners until proven otherwise. On the other hand, putting in new cab corners is not such a big deal and is not a reason to pass.....only to factor in on price. I do think the price is too high given there is no title.....May be different where you are, but here that is a major PITA.
Did they even make a 5 window deluxe big truck? Has all the stainless window trim too. Fenders and grill look right. Big truck cab is same as small truck. Can't get them here for 500.00 any more. Lots of old titles floating around. Talk him down to 1500 and go for it.
The fact there is no title is no big deal in Ontario. Contact the local MTO kiosk for info...been there done it. I'm just guessing you are in southern Ontario. $1500 would be plenty,,more than its worth but a similar truck priced lower will cost you an arm and a leg to get it shipped home whether you use a carrier or do it yourself
im in the okanagan. like to thank you all again for all the help. down the street is a place called KMS car parts..they sell all the parts to bring this truck back from the hell its in now.
Price out all the parts you will need to do the truck the way you want it. Add up all the numbers and then see what done trucks are bringing.Check the prices of project trucks that are close to being done as well. That should give you a better barometer of what that truck is worth.
I've had my truck since 1973 when i drove it home for 75.00 and have had who knows how many AD trucks or parts of AD trucks since and don't see anywhere close to 2000 dollars US or Canadian there and especially without a clear up to date title. It may have decent cab corners but I see the potential for a lot of cancer that will have to be dealt with in that truck especially just in front of the driver's door and along the seam at the belt line along the back of the cab. On the S-10 frame thing there are several threads on the net right now about guys having a hell of a time getting trucks registered after they have frame swaps. I'd have to think the majority of that is due to their lack of documentation on where the major components came from. The other thing is that too many guys doing S-10 swaps don't take the time and effort to get the body components lined up with either and the back of the beds sag down like a diaper full of crap or the nose doesn't line up right with the cab.
he will prob take 1500$ wthout the s10 frame,s10 frames should be free anyways. and as far as cab corners and all the body work thats not a prob im a bodyman,can weld great,and have the best painter in town in my pocket,he sat beside me in painting/refinshing..i have never looked into these 3100s thats why i dont know what they are worth.i thought the 5 windows are rare. here is a pick of the one in my buddys shop now ,but it came in good shape,nothing like this one im looking at. oh and from this build we have rear fenders and box sides.
Mr48Chev, above, has it right on the typical S-10 frame swap. In addition to which I would add; An S-10 has a track width of 54".....the AD pickups are 62"...fully 8" difference. Looks like Hell with the wheels so deep in the wheel opening. The "typical" solution is to use outwardly offset wheels to get them somewhere near decent looking.....but THAT solution is at the expense of really %$#@& up front end geometry and destroying one of the reasons some do the swap in the first place. Not to mention that the stock AD frame is at least as stout, if not more so, than the S-10. There are far better, and easier, ways to get modern suspension on an AD chassis.
ill look further into what donor parts i can use, and if the frame is for the most part all good ill use it. i called icbc and its a 7$ fee to get them to find the last ouner and do whatever need doing to get me the title. is the 5 window rare or no? i dont see them here ever.im going back to take a real good look at it, ill post pics, this guy is going in 6 days and will be gone for a month, i have ants in my pants
My best guess about 5 window cabs is that, in the US, they may have been as much 20% of production. However, it seems the survivor rate is higher than that, and that would be understandable, as they are often seen as more desireable. Best wishes on your acquisition and build.
It's funny, all this talk about how much it's worth. They ain't making 'em anymore so it's not like prices are going to stay static. Just like the recent thread about that wrecked '50 merc; most high-siders went with a $5K max price, while many pronounced it as no better than a $1500 parts car. It sold for over $10K at auction, so it was worth that much to someone... As to this truck, what's it worth to you? How many other buyers have been sniffing around? Sure, there may be 'other' trucks for less elsewhere, but what's it gonna cost to get one to you if it's very far away? I'll agree that the price seems high for my area, but maybe not yours. And I don't see the S10 frame as a bonus either... And it can be amazing how waving cash around while negotiating can have a beneficial effect on final price...
with those 3 crummy photos and no details any guess on a price really depends on what the "appraiser" is assuming the rest of it looks like. 2 grand seems like too much. that's my guess.
