Can anyone tell me if the trunk key is the same as the ignition or glove box or door key. My trunk handle is locked and I have no keys. This is on a project car ,so no emergency; just want get a key for the trunk lock; and can't get the trunk handle off the trunk lid w/ it locked.

it's probably a different key. you should be able to unlatch it if you remove the back seat and crawl into the trunk

If you have a bunch of old Briggs-and-stratton keys try 'em before you crawl-into the trunk! They did not use a whole lot of different combos on those locks - I have a key from a '51 Chevy that fits my '55 perfectly even though the number is completely different. I ust came across it by chance...

NOW: Here's a story about crawling through the back seat to open your trunk:

Once upon a time I had riders that commuted to work with me and I hated to let them down. I was sick one morning and should have stayed home but I picked-up one rider that day anyways - the closer to work I got the sicker I felt! 28 miles from home and 2 miles from work I stopped at a traffic light and, before I could roll the window down, I puked my guts out - all over me, my winter coat, my clothes, and the door panel of the drivers door!

I apologized to my rider and pulled-into a gas station to get a towel out of the trunk to clean-up my mess. I opened the trunk then set-down my eyegl***es and my puked-up coat, along with the keys that were in my hand, in the trunk. I know more than started to wipe myself off that another wave of nausea hit me and I bumped the trunk-lid shut!

    Oh, what a mess!

I am sick as a dog, covered with puke, my keys are locked in the trunk along with my tools and I can't see anything over 24 inches away without my gl***es that are locked in there too!

The gas station is just opening and I go up to the mechanic and ask if he has an adjustable wrench or a pair of pliers I can use to take the rear of my back-seat out to fish my stuff out of the trunk. This guy figures I am about the most pathetic derelict he is gonna ever see so he doesn't want to give me any tools, but he felt sorry for me, I guess, and gave me a pair of broken 4-inch channel locks.

I managed to get the seat-back out with the pliers, fished my keys out of the trunk somehow (you couldn't crawl through the braces behind the back seat in that car!), got my gl***es, wiped myself off, and drove my rider to work.

He told me he could get another ride home so I turned-around and went back myself - I was out of work for two weeks with a strep infection, NEVER should have gone to work that morning!!

EVERY TIME I hear someone talk about crawling in the trunk from back seat to un-lock it I think of that - now you will too!

My trunk lid is not locked shut, it's open but the handle is in the locked position. Not being able to turn the handle, I can't get at the 4 screws that hold the handle to the deck lid. BTW, that's a good story about gettin sick!

Same as the glove box key on my '46, so yours should be the same. i had an OLD locksmith tell me all the G.M.s of that era are like that. He had me bring the glovebox door to him, told me specifically not to take the lock out of the door, and he made a key from that, worked perfectly the first time...
