Projects 30's Indy style build

Starting with some dodge grill shells and a drawing I'm going to attempt a scratch body buid. It's going to have a la salle straight 8, tall spoke wheels and an open cockpit.

 

I started with the center piece to hold the two grill pieces together

After marking the space between the grills I needed to add metal to go behind the grill and for the flange. Then I formed and welded on ears to attach the grills using the factory holes

Sounds like a cool build

 

I like where this is headed. I want to do something similar someday.

 

Here it is in it's final stages. Get on the internet and google the JIM PENDELTON SPECIAL. He was quite the inspiration for me. His build will help you push past the nonsense. Just great

 

Sorry about the JIM PENDELTON SPECIAL reference to google. Google Metalshapers forum. It will have several of Jim's photo albums.

 

Thanks for bringing Mr Pendelton he lives in the Fort Worth area and I met him a few years ago. I'll give him a call.

Subscribed. I have day-dreamed about something like this with Buick straight 8 power so many times.

 

Subscrbed. I've been gathering parts and pieces for one for over 20 years and almost have all the basic pieces for mine now.

 

I cut out and started shrinking the top of the grill shell

I'd say you are on to it, that does have the look of an early 30's Indy car or Grand Prix car grill.

 

This is gonna be so freakin' cool...

I'm trimming the top of the shell in order to turn a flange for mounting to the grille
