Hi Everyone. Please see the enclosed pics. I was told that this rearend was an early Nova and that it had the brackets changed to fit under a Vega which was apparently a common update for a Vega back in the day. Do any of you concur? Many thanks in advance! Regards, Dave.

I don't know a lot about Vegas, but Nova's I know. Below is a chart that will give you rear axle dimensions for the Novas. It includes spring perch measurements so can maybe use it to see if something has been change.

If my memory serves me correctly I use to narrow the rears to 54 1/2 inches, so depending on your back spacing you should be alright.I know I did some A body 8 3/4 for some customers, and I think they were about 57 1/2 it's been a while

Thanks for the help guys! I actually just wanted to confirm that it would work on a Vega as I want to sell it. Got it with the idea of using it in a T-Bucket but my measurements were off and it's too wide for the fendered glass body we have. We since picked up an S-10 rear. Thanks again! Regards, Dave.

Looks to me like it's built for a '71-'75 Vega, in '76 they changed to a 3-link with a torque arm. The stock width is somewhere around 54-1/2" as far as I know. Should be the same width as a 2wd S10

What rear end is it? If it's the 8.5" 10bolt you shouldn't have a problem finding a Vega guy willing to buy it. I'd buy it but mine a '76 with the 3-link (plus you're on the other side of the country)

Thanks for the info Phill! I ran the numbers some time ago and it came up as a Nova ('75 to '77) if I recall correctly. I'll run them again and use "Deuced Up!" 's chart and check the measurements. The guy I bought it from said it had the Vega brackets put on. Don't think there were any Novas that had coils(?). Thanks again for your help! Regards, Dave.

Pretty sure all Novas had leaf springs, 68 thru 79 for sure anyway. I'm also thinking the 77 thru 79 rear would be to wide for a Vega but thats not saying someone would not do it anyway!

Yea, those are Vega mounts. But I've never seen a 10 or 12 bolt that didn't need to be narrowed to fit right.

I'm pretty sure this thread will go poof before long.

That thing has coil spring pads. Not from an early Nova.

He already said it was fitted with brackets for the Vega.
It definitely looks like the pre 1971 8.2" ten bolt that came in early Novas.
Here's a 12 bolt adapted to a Vega for reference:
