Manual steering box is shot in my 54 Mercury , want to up grade to newer steering box. I would like to keep the manual steering setup in my car. What other steering boxes would work in my mercury?
This is not an easy swap out. The steering shaft is pressed into the steering box. You will either have to cut the old shaft off or have it removed at a shop. I am most of the way through a power steering upgrade using an Isuzu box and an adapter plate. I will be using an aftermarket steering column. I have a big block in the car and parking has become near impossible. If you are married to manual steering you would be best off having your stock box rebuilt. Vic
