So, I have a maverick v8 rear axle under my '49 ford. Muncie M-20 transmission. I'm about to take the driveshaft for some stretching and need to know what back half I need. Can I use the original back half of the driveshaft ('67 Lemans) and use one of those ujoints with two cap sizes? If so anyone got a part number or a place to get them?

    Speedway or Napa.

    Sound like you have an 8 inch. The last 9 inch (28spline) I had used a standard 1310 series u-joint same as GM 1 1/16 cap X 3 7/32.

Maverick will likely use the same 153 joint that many of the intermediate GMs used...if you have the Saginaw joints on the Poncho driveshaft then you'll need the 3022 conversion joint.

pics and measurements will help us help you.

I have a 60 biscayne rear axle and a s-10 shaft in my 50 and i took both u joints to napa and they have a catolog with pictures and mesurements. or you can tell them your two aplications and they have a chart that will tell them the joint you need to use. The conversion joints at napa ran me about 33.00 or so.

Can't help ya on this one. I got a custom shaft in mine. The driveshaft shop had it installed when I P/U.

  6. if your going to have the drivshaft made you should have them put the end on for the 8" , so that way you can use a stock style u-joint. it would **** *** to bust a conversion joint and can't find one easy (or at all in the middle of nowhere)............just my .02

I think the problem is the u-joint end on the driveshaft is bigger. BOP's used larger u-joints than Chevrolets.

When I put a Chevy 350 in my Cutl***, I used the "conversion" u-joint in the front because i had the right length driveshaft already (the stock one from the Olds). Now, I don't know if this has to do with the u-joint, or if my dad's home-made transmission adapter plate was way off...but when I got on the highway, it shook like a mother.
