Hey all, in my hunt for a 75-80 Granada rear end for my 36 Sedan, a guy emailed me this morning with an 8" rear end out of a 75 Comet. I have researched online and came up with a 43" perch to perch distance on the Granada rear end, and a frame diagram showing a rail to rail distance on the 74-75 Maverick/Comet of 42.84". Will I have to relocate the perches for this small difference, or is it "close enough"?
I wouldn't worry about the spring pads, they can be cut off and re-welded or drilled. But the Comet / Maverick diff is 1-1/2" narrower hub-to -hub. could cause tire rub if you have already bought wheels offset for the Granada diff
Your less than a 1/4 of an inch. The spring shackles will let it flex that much. Or take a die grinder and elongate the hole. I have the same set up-Ch***is Eng springs on my sedan. RB
Cool, I have no rims yet, so that should be no problem, I figure 3/4 of an inch on each side should be no problem for clearance. RB35, are you pleased with the Ch***is Engineering rear end set up?
I put a Granada rear in a '40 ford pick-up with a ch***is engineering rear leaf spring and it worked real well. I was able to use a 235-75-15 rear tire on an eight inch wide rim. The spring pads on the rear did not have to be moved they worked in the factory location and I able to use the emergency brake cables also . There are a couple of pic of the truck in my albums. Hope this helps. A stock '40 rear end is 59 1/4" axle flange to axle flange. The Granada is 57 3/4" or 58".
I too have the Granada 8" in my '36 tudor with the CE rear end kit and it worked out very nicely; although the rear spring bracket required quite a bit of bending to conform to the rear of ch***is. Make sure you know if your frame is early or late '36. The 235/75/15's tires fit just right with a 3.25" reversed rim and no spacer.
Ch***is Eng. kit works just fine and gives a good ride. I did get 3.55 gears put in and with the T-5 the flathead is just fine. RB
Forgot to say that I had to use a 1/4" spacer to push the wheel out because the tire would just barely hit the bed as the suspension worked. Not sure of the back spacing of the wheels, they were multi pattern Smoothies.
