I took a piece of waterproof marine canvas and stretched it over the opening of my old '32 coupe top insert.....then I waxed it and laid fibergl*** over it to create a "buck" of the top insert & bows. The plan was to cover a 'gl*** insert with Hartz Cloth and hold it down with something like T-top latches.....a perfect removable insert.... Although it would be hard to store in a trunk while driving....S***ch

porsche 944 sunroof works great and fits a model A roof contours almost perfect. they can be found in electric or manual in a 924. they are steel or fiber gl*** . They are really big and with a little spray glue and fabric you could make it look like a stock insert. most junk yards will sell roof sections cheap mine cost $280 including shipping.

If you wanna go the vw style, StreetBeat Customs will custom make a vw style rag in any size you want. I personally have have some VERY bad dealings with them though, so be warned. Heres a pic of a sedan with a similar deal to give you an idea

  6. Why not call'em Webasto roof's as they made them for most of the industry. :D

I've also seen a couple on Belgium Ebay over the last couple of weeks.
They were also used in the Reliant Scimitar and Scimitar GTE, for which spares are going for peanuts in the UK...

If you can't find it, PM me and I'll give you the details. My version wasn't removable, but I suppose it could be.

Years ago I made an aluminum roof insert for a '34 Plymouth...wood frame, aluminum sheet with a little shaped hammered in...was an amatuer metalshaper at the time...needed some filler, but was a decent removable roof section. Check out my t-top album...this is how I would probably do one now:

A bit heavy for a panel the size of a roof insert..perhaps do the same thing in aluminum, or make a steel tubing ribbed frame, and cover it with canvas?

Just last weekend I was checking out an A coupe, it had a stock looking vynil top insert, but it had snaps every 5 inches or so like a taunneau cover, so it could be taken off and put behind the seat or in the trunk

Actually, all the Rolling Bones cars have removable insterts...let me fix that, keiths coupe has the original insert, and the roadster, well....haha anyway. If you want a removable metal insert, its a time consuming process...but its worth it when its done.

Here's mine. Just snaps on around the sides. Have a camper awning track screwed to the top of the visor and a 1/4' rope sewn in the front of the top. The whole thing comes off in a couple minutes on a nice sunny day.
