I'm kinda jealous on you americans and everyone else that use mp/h and so on,
its darn hard to find cool old for instance period perfect sw meters in km/h and when i'm sick enough trying to find decently priced gauges from the past im leaning on just ahwell fvck it i'm buying new stuff, and of course no sw wings gauges in metric, not even moon or so-cal in metric, can't find any fun gagues in metric, it sucks...

can't you just convert to the metric system so we all can get along?

  2. could someone over in your neck of the woods repaint our gauges to read what they should in metric? Recalibrate 'em and all that? I would think someone could do this for you. Maybe someone here in the states could. Why not just run our kooky MPH gauges and live up to your name PyschoDaemon! lol, I wouldn't sweat it bro...I have not come across too many hotrods that have actual Working guages anyhow...lol
That way when we speed we can honestly tell the police officer that we Really didn't know we were going that fast!

ahwell, it's mainly for looks anyhow, atleast the speedo ;)

yeah is of course some real good instrument/gauge shops around here
just that it somehow feels stupid to turn in a brand new gauge to make it kph when it could have been that from the begnining, must enough customers that want stewart warner wings gauges in metric for them to just print new faces and so on for a serie...

some one makes an adpter to go on the speedo cable to convert a MPH gauge to kph it only would have the wrong letters on the face of the gauge.

  8. Maybe an E-mail to the folks at autometer would help. Things may have changed over the years, but they used to be willing to provide such graphics for a fee. They would even "restore" old factory insturments with their internals. Eighteen years ago, I was one of the guys who would say "yes" to such a job, after getting time and cost quotes from the guys in engineering of course.

Times have not changed at CLASSIC. They are more than happy to put any face on any guage that you can dream up. Mine don't say MPH or KPH. Mine read S=D/T. Call them up and ask for Jake. Tell him that Doc. sent ya.

Maybe you guys can all convert to english

  11. have you tried old mg gauges, like out of a TC? thos would look great, i think.

now for the stupid question of the day, are you driving the speedo off the front wheels? or is a tranny mount? on my father's '06 pope hartford the speedo is driven off the front wheel, he never changed the drive cog, so when the speedo reads 25mph you are going 50mph

I believe there are three countries in the world who hasn't decided to make a change to the metric system (SI units), Burma, Nigeria and USA, but that's another story...

As a hardcore instrument fetishist I feel you pain.

But if you not interested in spending your hard earned cash on ebay where a correct speedo has no MPH or KPH marking, there is only one new gauge that looks OK, Classic Intrument Hot Rod Series, and they are available metric.

All other new instruments has all a major flaw, their needles are too thick.

On the other hand, the standard SW small block instruments has been around forever and can still be picked up cheaper than new ones on ebay.

Well you speak for this American!

I'd either buy the set I want and have the faces redone OR learn to convert our mph to kmh. It's not hard. Just a glance after you get the hang of it should tell you what you need to know.

    Just a CHEAP thought!

  16. 30 MPH is 50 KPH, 50 MPH is 80 KPH and 80 MPH is 130 KPH

for anyone oposing the metric system i urge you to download this song

atom and his package - Lord It's Hard To Be Happy When You're Not Using The Metric System

and sing along with these lyrics

12 inches per foot two pints per quart why don't we make it easy? The English system of measurement must relate to history. We can use units of 10 and convert with ease like all the other countries. I am in command yes I am taking a stand from this disease we must be free. good god! You're drunk with your tradition that has no validity well I'm intoxicated with sports in metrics come drink a deciliter with me we want metrics we want it now we know we can win I weigh 170 pounds that's 90 kilograms see metrics can even make you thin all cool things are in metrics for example here's just one I've got my 9 well that's 9 millimeters, sounds cooler than my point two seventy inches gun. The president will not exist and they will call me communist and call me scum but its worth it Canadians will think we are smart or at least they will think we are not as dumb. your tradition that has no validity well I'm intoxicated with sports in metrics come drink a deciliter with me we want metrics we want it now we know we can win I weigh 170 pounds that's 90 kilograms see metrics can even make you thin the revolution is here we must overcome at last as we symbolically stick their fucking foot up their fucking ass guitar! Your tradition that has no validity well I'm intoxicated with sports in metrics come drink a deciliter with me we want metrics we want it now we know we can win I weigh 170 pounds that's 90 kilograms see metrics can even make me thin

the only issue i have with classic instrument is that i don't like the text classic instrument on the face kinda makes it dead obvious that its not old, but then again the new stewart warner wings series is kinda a dead away of not being old anyhow

and yeah the standard sw block gagues would be just fine for me, i better check around on markets next summer and find me some gauges

and on a sidenote i noticed that my 1957 studebaker silver hawk had decent looking instruments that seem to be in the standard hotrod sizes, my are kph also bad thing was that the tach was swapped out for a little smaller ugly vdo one... good thing bout the ones in my stude is that they are blackface with white letterings/numbers and no logos what so ever so they are pretty clean... maybe i should just steel those will take forever until i play with the stude anyhow...

sometimes sollutions isn't so far away as one might think

And on a dare to be different approach...50's Scania truck gauges.
    3 3/8" speedo and 2 1/16" fuel/amp/oil/water.
Made by Stewart Warner, cream white facias, red needles, metric and text in SWEDISH.

You see them on swaps all the time.

    OK .. , Don`t get me wrong here ... early style Hot-Rods probably had a MPH-gauge .... right (?) ... So , a kph-gauge would be out of place ....:)

BTW : ..one of my KPH "Deuce" gauges are now in the hands of Bruce-L ...;)
    KLAZ..:)
    Månmannen : I have a set of those ... COOL Stuff ... :)

If you need to find a speedometer adapter that converts from MPH to KPH, call these people - D&D Instruments (800) 766-4243. I deal with them at work and they've come up with some pretty wild stuff for me in the past.

    Hope this helps,
    Ed

  29. Re your Stude Silver Hawk gauges - I've got a set (think I have Tach too). I understand that they were made by SW -look exactly like'em except w/o logo. Also, Ford made metric speedos (for export models?). I've got a nice (gold) 37 metric speedo if that might fit your plans. PM me if yr interested. I'm lookin to unload some stuff.

  30. Didn't Volvo's of the 60's have nice round instruments?

You'd know that far better than I, but it seems the 50's and 60's era European cars - and maybe trucks? - had instruments that would work well in the hot rod genre.
