Hi. I make hot rod films as a hobby and have been lucky enough to do a road trip around NZ's South Island for a couple of weeks (I'm from the North Island so all new territory for me). It will all get edited down to a film on DVD/Vimeo but I also snapped a few photos so figured I'd post a selection of them up here. Cheers!
Cool. Great photos and a very nice part of the world to cruise (except for the odd earthquake ) cheers , Doug.
Nice pics man...bet you are falling in love with the South Island. Good roads, friendly people, less traffic, cool old buildings and a shit load of cool ol tin. Fun part is trying to find it! A lot of sheds full of cars hiding down that way..
Ah the South Island a glorious part of paradise. love the photos - the Otago one is a time piece - full of history
pic #5, did you get to see in the shed (green doors) I go there every week to get our household drinking water . (the well was stuffed in the quakes) Real nice photos , thanks for sharing.
Thanks for checking them out. Have a bunch more but not able to get near decent internet connection yet. Shot a cool early style 34 tonight, will try and upload via phone. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Great photo shots of the cars and the buildings. Thanks for posting the down under shots of some very cool rides. Jimbo
In March 2010 we were in NZ at Tairua on the N. Island and happened across the Beach Hop which is an annual event that travels from town to town. The nice looking yellow Chevy pickup was at the same motel with us and we saw lots of hot rods on the roads in the area. I didn't know before that how popular hot rods were in NZ. It was a treat to experience the show n' shine at Tairua and see so many cars on the roads the next few days. Lucky us, we got to see both islands in a 3 week time but even that was not enough. If anyone here in the States is thinking about a trip to NZ plan it in March and include the Beach Hop.
You are right about the Beach Hop. World Famous that is. Cal, looking forward to the next DVD "South". Was a privilege to be included in the last one "North" .. Cheers mate and enjoy the Southern hospitality.
Man that looks great! In a couple of weeks we are going to NZ, we will visit both isles, on the north isle we found some traditional Rodshops, but we did not found any on the south isle, do you know some interesting Rodshops worth visiting thanks Leen (from down under, for you guys..)
Hey Leen. Didn't really go to any 'shops' down that way so no much help sorry! Rocket Speed Equipment in Hamilton up north is well worth a visit for trad stuff.
And here's some video from an event that was on when I was down there; Muscle Car Madness. WARNING! There are a couple of rodenty type rods in there. HD version here: http://hotrodrevue.co.nz/#/muscle-car-madness-2014/
Very timely this should pop up ,as Cal is working 24/7 on editing this film at the moment........can't be far away now.
