Do I need a flexible slave cylinder line?

Ok I'm trying this again in a diff forum since my last post got deleted and the moderator never PM'd me back....

I have a master/slave hydraulic clutch setup in my car. When I put it together, I ran a hard line between the master (located on the body), and the slave cyl (located on the transmission). Looking at it now, I feel like maybe I need a flexible line between the two, since the trans will move around and the body will not.

So, my question is-do I need to do this or not? If I do need a flexible line, how do I go about buying/making one? another HAMBer (fsae0607) posted a great link on how he did his, but I'm open to other ideas as well.

Yes you need one! A front brake hose may work.

Agreed you should have a flexible line either a rubber or braided line

A hard line WILL eventually work harden and break. You can alleviate this to a certain extent by forming a series of coils in the line to sorta spread out the line flex over a broad area, but a flex line is better.
I just installed one on my roadster. Measured the length needed, looked to see what fittings I needed on each end, and took info to a hydraulic shop.
They made me a nice hose with the proper fittings on the ends and a SS braided hose with teflon lining inside. Ask around, and I'll bet you can find a shop near you that will custom make such a hose. Costs a little more, but worth it if you're building it to keep.

  5. Yes, same post in your other thread.

I forget what the application is
    - but I asked the parts pro for a short brake hose with inverted flair female fittings on both ends. 2min later and 9.00 lighter I was out the door.

Wagner P/N BH37583 is a 12" brake line with 7/16-24 IFF ends. Try that out.

Other hoses may work but most likely you'll need an adaptor to go from metric to SAE flare.

I would stay with a over the counter part like the Wagner part referenced earlier. Much easier to get if you break down on the road.

Alright guys I appreciate the help. I had checked a few catalogs and hadn't come up with much. The slave cyl is a universal one I got from a circle-track racing company (afco maybe?) so I'll have to get under there and check what thread pitch it is and see what I can do with it.

local speed shops will have the ends and braided lines in different lengths for your application on the shelf.

just remeber to put a little slack into it so when the trans ****s over it don't try to rip the threads out . for every foot of distance to bridged I put in 1 inch of slack . its ok for it to hang down
