The tail housing would have to come off. The 5th gear set in in there. Above shown is the output shaft, with the 5th gear set as the two gears that you can see. The fork to shift in and out of 5th is below the output shaft. The screwdriver is behind the drive gear. The teeth would have to be counted. Keep in mind, the ratio of teeth on these gears is NOT the actual 5th gear ratio. This gear set is subject to a reduction between gears farther forward in the system. The combination of those two gear ratios makes 5th.
this is very very true! can the 5th gear set be changed from just removing the tails-haft, or does the rest of the gear box need to be opened up??
