It's been a while since I did my olds but I'm pretty sure it's the wire coming off of your alternator goes to one post of ammeter then from the other post of ammeter to the positive terminal on your battery. I'm sure that someone will chime in if I misinformed you... Oh! Good idea to put a fuse between your alternator or generator and your gauge, if something doesn't add up while it's running, there's a good chance you have the two posts mixed up on the back of your ammeter try switching them around.

  3. Not sure why you need both. They went away from ammeters because it put all the amps through the dash gauge, had a car almost burn up because the regulator contact stuck and it melted the ammeter wires but good.

If you do it rig it up with a fuse at least.

If it's the Chevy in your avatar and it has the original gauges it will have a ammeter already. More information please.

FORGET the ammeter...they are dangerous...USE only a voltmeter...!!!

Had an ammeter burn its wires on me some years ago...took over five hours to find the problem...those gauges will cause a fire...!!!
