Features Phonebooth on a Deuce chassis?...

My buddy calls me up and asks if I can store a new project for him for awhile...here's what he brought me...a '29 Phonebooth on a highboy deuce chassis. Looks cool as hell. Never seen one before...killer wheels and tires.

just noticed...10,000th post. Wheels and tires are 4x15 magnesium spindle mount fronts with 125r15 michelin's...rears are 14/31/16 NOS Firestone dirt trackers on 10x16 ET mags.

That is all kinds of cool! I'd go for thinner rear tires, but it rocks.

 

you don't see that a lot , but always thought that looks great...took a picture of one at the Street Rod Nationals in 1985. i'll see if i can find it

 

My Dad is building one right now. '29 on Deuce frame with 401 Nailhead. It's going to be pretty cool.

I like the rear tires...gives it a cartoon appearance

 

I like the wheels tire combo. They look great on the truck.

 

Neat truck, although I was always under the impression that a phone booth was a pre-26 T coupe.

 

I'm 58, and I've always known these tall square-ish trucks as phonebooths...I could be wrong.

I dig it. Should be a fun build. Tires and wheels are cool and remind me of a lot of 70's builds.
Any history on the truck as a Hot Rod? An old project never finished? A former runner torn down and in the middle of a rebuild? Or a new build with a nice sampling of cool parts?

 

And I always heard the truck cabs called "Cracker Box Cabs".....?????????????

Doesn't REALLY matter...it is a nice looking car and will be fun to drive

 

What I know about those cabs is that at 6 foot 8 ill never fit in one!!!

I have always heard of the trucks as phone booths. I have one here that will be full fendered.

 

No history. It's a new build with parts added by different owners... The previous owner was a pal that was crushed when a jack failed...no jackstands...my buddy bought it from his widow. He's not sure if he's going to build it, or part it out. He mainly bought it because the cab is one of the nicest he's ever seen...no rust anywhere. He buys mostly '28/29 A stuff.

 

I've wondered many times why more '28-'29 closed-cabs don't show up on '32 chassis'. It's been done many, many times with the same year roadster pickups. For some reason it's just not a go-to style for most builders.

I build models for fun and a few years back I put together this chopped '29 on a hemi powered '32 chassis. Not one of my best builds quality-wise, but it gets the point across that combo looks pretty bitchin'.

I like it. Especially the wheel tire combo.

 

I'd like to see it with a trim and the stock fenders on it. Love the 28-29 fenders.

 

That is my plan for my 29 closed cab. I an going to flatten and pinch the 32 frame then channel the body 1" so that the point of the small kick up at the doorpost is level with the frame and complements the frame reveal that will end at the hood/cowl line. The hood will then be flush to the frame and the radiator will also be shortened that 1". At the back I will raise the tail of the frame that slopes down to level and set the bed on it so that the belt line of the cab and the bed rail are level with each other.

I have chopped the top 6", took 2 1/2" out of the header and 3 1/2" out of the windshield. At the back of the cab I shortened the panels top and bottom and kept the window full size. I should go get it from my friends place since I now have a shop to put it in.

Since this thread has been brought back up,I still like the look but the v'ed spreader bar doesn't do anything for me. HRP
