Hi fellow hamb members, I am wondering what type of frame to use under a 34 ford pickup ? I have a line on a cab, box and ***orted hood pieces that I'm interested in buying, I just don't want to get in over my and buy parts that won't work on some frame that is cost prohibitive to my budget ! Would it best with a stock type frame or custom built one ? Thanks in advance for any good advice

Use a stock frame. They are around, and cheap.

The frame on these are exposed and part of the styling. Get a stock or repo frame. You can't really use anything else and have it look like anything other than a rat rod.

I've had more than a few experts list all the ways this wouldn't work or look good...

We used the 1.5 ton truck frame because it was easy/free, no need to fully box the rails and
built to drive not impress the experts

  8. there's one on ebay. racingjunk.com, and in the hamb cl***ifieds. also 32 frames look awsome with these trucks and 32 and 33 rails cost about the same new. I have also seen Isuzu truck frames under some of these trucks but please hide it with fenders good luck.

That statement is what you call an opinion. So far every one I have seen with other than a stock or similar frame looks like a rat rod. You may not agree. I don't care.

The cabs are the same but the firewalls are different , the wheelbase is 106" on a 32 and I believe 110" on a 33-34 which means if you are going to put 33 stuff on a 32 frame your going to have to do something like shorten the bed to make the wheel location come out right... If you are buying your pickup stuff with fenders the 33-34 front fenders won't work on a 32 frame..

If you have a bunch of nice orig 33-34 stuff you are buying I would probably go with a 33-34 frame ... Depending on where you are a decent one is 1,000- up ...kiwi konnection offers a fully tig welded boxed bare frame starting at about1,800 .. Best deal I have found for the quality they produce.. They offer full rollers reasonable too

My truck project is a 33 cab, 31widebed, 32 frame front cross is going to be pushed out 2" you can make mis-match parts work if you have the right eye for it. But as far as value and resale you may get hurt ...there are a ton of *******ized 32-34 trucks out there , the nice specimen will hold its value

Stock 33-34 wheelbase is 112", but other than that, his suggestions are pretty spot on.

I started with reproduction 33-34 frame rails myself for my 34 truck.

Thanks for the reply, I might build one if the parts are available , any hints for reproduction parts like x- member , front and rear x- member ? I am capable of building a frame as I have built many race cars in my past , I really don't have a source for original stuff, does any anyone make repop stuff ? Thanks

  16. Too bad you're not closer.
    I have a 33BB frame and a '34 US V8 frame sitting here
that will probably get sold soon.

Whatever you use, post a build thread with lots of pictures,
    cause we loves trucks.

Yes I wished I was closer ! I looked at your 33 , very nice complete truck, that is really what I would like to find , but not that many around these parts , most of them are overdone or just junky over priced stuff ! So u know what my options are - build it myself ! I least my better have will know where I am ! In da shop ! Where I am ALL the time in her mind !

Those 2 look great, seems like 32 frames are quite popular for any 32-34 pickups , thanks for the pics , much appreciated !

Cheapest easiest quickest frame to do yourself is to buy some new rails from American stamping company in olive branch Mississippi they used to be about 600 plus shipping, they sell 32 and 33-34 rails , they also sell the boxing plates pre-cut ( t******* still needed if you want to step box the frame , they also sell front crossmembers....btw for the money.. The boxing plates are worth it.. Full length, cool rolled steel.. Hard to make them cheaper... I tried..

For a basic automatic trans car you can buy sheet metal center crossmembers from ch***is engineering in west branch Iowa ... I like them as they are similar to stock ford they sell the brake pedal and trans. Mount that corresponds , however if you want a clutch your going to have to make your own stuff for the trans mount..

I usually just box the ends that tie to the x member... Makes it easy and plenty strong.. Put a tube across the back for coil overs or my preference a 40 ford spring and your done .. About 30hrs an 1,000.00 you have a frame... In the US anyway

I just realized that you're in Ontario. I'd suggest you get in touch with Neil at Candy's Hotrod Supply: http://candyshotrodsupply.blogspot.ca
He's a great guy, honest, and does top notch work.

He's a Speedway dealer, (a**** others) and I've found that you often can't beat his pricing for parts coming in from the US.

He built the frame under my 34. Here's a link to the thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=708617
