Hello all, I have a 1963 Chevy C10 with the 230 eng. I removed the fuel take from the back of the seat and installed a new one under the frame in the back. Since doing that the only way my truck will start and stay running is by adding a little fuel to the carb. and it will fire and stay running. If you don't do that and try and start it correctly you will not get fuel to the carb from the pump. I have replaced the mechanical fuel pump. I have pulled all fuel lines and blown them out. I also tried a short hose in a fuel can close to the pump with the same results. any help would be great. Thanks, Wayne
yeah your carb is having an issue. Did you clean out the stone filter on the inlet of the carb? I am assuming you have the 1 bbl Rochester? I am assuming that you also have manual choke? What happens when you pump the pedal once? Does it fire?
Yes I have the 1bbl Rochester and yes I have a manual choke. When I pump the pedal nothing happens I can pump that thing till the cows come home and she will not start.
You may have a needle and seat stickig and a too low float level. Or to high under hood temps that are boiling out the gas in the float bowl after you shut down, or a bas accelerator pump. When you look down the carb do you get a good jet of fuel when you work the throttle linkage from idle stop to WOT with the engine off>
Try to diconnect fuel line and run it into a bottle or jar, if no fuel check pump and any vent lines, newer tanks have recovery and vent lines.
You also may try taking your gas cap off or loosen it newer tanks seal, not letting vapor out. may be causing pump not to be able to suck fuel.
