Need Help ID'ing this 5-Speed Trans

I can't find a tag. Looks like there might have been one on the top of the trans. Wanting to list this in the cl***ifieds but would like to know the application first. All I know is it's a GM Borg Warner with the numbers 1352-066-933 R1 on the main case and 1352-065-916 on the tailshaft/shifter. Thanks in advance.

 

Looks like S10, and the long input makes me think 4 cylinder

 

It sure looks to be a T-5 from an S-10 but the 1352- number doesn't seem to jive with the information I have on hand.

 

Yes, S10. It has an electric speedo drive so it would be 1988 or newer. In 1988 and 89, the S10 speedo drive was electric if the truck was equipped with the digital gauge cluster and cable drive if the truck had the ****og cluster. From 90 on, they were all electric. Before 88, they were all cable. In 93, the front case-to bell housing bolt pattern changed to the Ford pattern. It looks like you have the Chevy pattern, which puts you in the 88 to 92 range.

The T-5 transmission parts have all kinds of 1352- casting numbers which have little meaning in trans identification. The 1352- identification tag number was only on the stamped metal strip tag retained by a drivers side tailshaft housing bolt, (the bolt that is backed out in the OP's pics), and printed on the bottom line of the "bar code" label affixed to the top cover on the main case. Both get really tough to read after a few years on the road. Hope this helps.

I've had one hell of a time I.D.ing some of these.....unfortunately, G.M. (or Borg Warner) cheaped out and made the I.D. tags out of tin, and that plus upstate NY road salt equals trouble. The old tags that were on Positraction rear ends were stainless and lasted forever.

1352-066 looks to be 1984 vintage.

Note: the "code" column of the chart simply corresponds to the common first-through-fourth gear ratio combinations.

According to some sources, the 1352-249 tag indicates the Ford Motorsports "T5z" transmission, which was specially built for racing applications. The same sources indicate that 1352-251 is the same transmission as a 1352-249, except ***embled by Tremec after Borg-Warner stopped production.

 

The above chart is an excellent reference if you have and are able to read the stamped trans ID strip tag on one of the tailshaft housing bolts or the printed trans ID number on the maincase bar code label.

Taking a portion of any 1352 casting number and plugging it into this chart has no meaning.

That's an S10 T5, with a mechanical speedometer drive. In that year range, there were only two gear sets, despite the numerous 1352 dash numbers.

One had a 4.03:1 first gear. The other, a 3.76:1 first gear.

Put the transmission in first gear. Remember, the shifter is a single-pivot, so the mechanism goes to the opposite position of the shifter, so, while that shifter is left and forward, the rail is right and back.

Get a Sharpie and put a mark on both the input and output shafts. Rotate the input shaft as many times as it takes to get the output shaft to turn once.

If you get a hair over 4, it's a 4.03.
