front axle 47 - 53 chevy truck

Wondering if anyone has ever moved the front axle to the top of the springs by adding a new perch? I was told this can be done with a 1/4 " plate for the perch.

 

It probably would work, but it seems like you wouldn't have much suspension travel. Take a look on www.droppedaxles.com, he can do a 3" drop on your stock axle without changing your truck's drive quality.
