$5 it's not in the housing Turn it by hand as blowby suggested to prove it. Then drive it down the street and stop and pick up your wrench off of the street on return trip. It works.
If you have a small point and shoot digital camera you might aim it behind the block and in some hard to see spots and see if the wrench shows up in the photos. I've done that lately to be able to check things that i can't see because of an obstruction.
Of course its always the last place you look. You don't keep looking for it after you found it. Do you?
You need a nice magnet to fish down there. This is the best magnet you can get. You can bend it & it will hold any shape. http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/MP14X/HD-FLEXIBLE-MAGNET/ I've tried them all - this one is great
If you have an old computer hard drive, take it apart. They have super strong thin magnets in them. Tape it to your finger and reach up around the trans and anywhere else you can't see.
Just rock the car side to side, up and down, and back and forth. Sometimes this will help the stuck item fall to the ground if it's caught up in some wiring or something like that Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
try using a blowgun to blast lots of air around,it might make it move and fall to the ground?,you can get flexible mirrors on these sticks ah HF too.Myself I would move the car back about 20 feet and do a major cleanup on the area, use a trouble light to help see,I always use one to see better. well i have tried pretty much all the ideas you guys have suggested, i tried dropping another (string attached) rubber mallet, magnet inside and out, cloths hanger, and turning it over by hand, even tried taking pics inside the bell housing . All efforts are leading me to believe it isnt in the bell housing. We dont have a local harbor freight so I am going to stop at one on my way home from work wed. If I cant find it in there with the camera I am prob gonna chance it and take it for a spin. Thanks for all the ideas, I am really thinking that it isnt probable that it fell down and then inside of that hole. I will keep you all updated . Ryan
Dropping it with a string attached isn't an exact replication and more than likely to be useless. Just saying
31vicky , u read my mind, I was just thinking the same thing and currently putting coveralls over my church cloths to try without string. Last try before I'm pulled outta the garage for the day Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thanks for understanding I wasn't really calling you names. Your idea is as good as any the rest of us could come up with. My bet is the wrench will show up on the garage floor or someone will find it along the road later. Now many of us are curious. Lucky I've never done anything lke that. Today!
Well I taped up the hole again this morning and dropped a same size wrench from the same spot approx 50 times in as scientific of a method as possible. It seems to me that the chances that it fell down and made a sort of 90 deg left hand turn into the clutch hole are slim. The car turns over fine without any noise or resistance by hand. Gonna still wait on camera snake and then prob call it lost on frame rail Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
when it fell it could have been deflected to the side and went under, in or on something else near you car. this has happened to me many times. it seems the last place you want to retrieve it from is usually where it has gone to.
Losing a tool like that is worse than losing a set of keys!! I dropped a stubby philips screwdriver one time while I was leaning over the fender of a truck at work,I heard the thing hit the concrete floor, so I get on all fours and start looking arond under the truck (Right?) no where to be found .......so I start looking in a larger area out from under the truck, still nothing and now I am starting to get pissed, I get on the creeper and start looking all over the place, about an hour later I found it !! Believe it or not it had bounced, and ended up on top of the transfer case, the reason I know it did not just end up dropping ON the transfer case is because I was on the opposite side of the truck when it dropped,so you see it had to bounce on the floor first and end up in that position,so never rule anything out as to where it might have landed. HOPE you find it & make sure Ya let us know !! ( GOOD LUCK)
Lol ! The dog ate my 5/16 ignition wrench The shop cat has bapped it across the floor and under the shop fridge.
have you moved the car from its spot yet, something that small could snuggle up real close to the tire and be hard to see?,try bouncing the car up and down or back and forth in gear? Harvey
Dude, you can't get 250,000 people playing "find the wrench" and not report back. Did your wife find it in the cuff of your dirty jeans? Come on!
Gaurenteed way of finding it- just go out and buy a brand new one, preferably an expensive one, and within 3 minutes of getting home from the store, it will show up. Works for me everytime.
