Blower

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by redlineracer42, Feb 2, 2014.

  1. I wanna put this on my small block chevy powered coupe. Can anyone tell me just what size blower this is? Also I suppose I would have to make my own adapter plate to make it fit a normal blower manifold, anyone? A place to supply me with all I need to make this work on my sbc would be great! Thanks R~R

That's a v-series blower. So yes you would have to make an adaptor. If it was me I'd look for a 6-71. Here's a guy I've dealt with for my pulleys and drive. He sells polished 6-71's ready to go for $650.

  4. Unless you get a super duper smoking deal on that V blower, you'll be money ahead following Matt's advice.

Use it as a door stop, and get a good blower that will work correctly!

x2. I've had great luck with Rudy. He's in Waterloo/Cedar Falls so not really that far from you. Dyers in Chicago used to play with the v series blowers. Might want to contact them.

  8. Dyer's Blower Service in Summit, IL. They've been doing V series blowers and drives going back to the 70's. Gary Dyer used to drive for Grand-Spalding Dodge back in the 60's and 70's and has building blowers since. His son run the business still and Gary is around the shop too

and being its a v series you cannot develop too much boost as it will push off the baseplate , these blowers were made for scavenging the cylinder ( pushing out the exhaust products ) not to pressurize them like we use in compe***ion . and most industrial blowers need alot of rework to make them work as often the rotor or the case has galling and some have large clearance issues which cause the intake charge to heat up .

I also reccomend Dyers , have used them alot to repair my commercial ones and a few compe***ion ones . give them a call , Bill or Gary might answer the phone as its a small shop . 708 496-8100

  14. Thanks! I wondered about that lack of mounting bolts arraingement! I have seen a couple motors with those blowers, they must be running low boost. Anyhow if I decide to blowerize my coupe,I will heed your advise. Thanks again! R~R

on the diesel the nose gear/governor drive ( the mess on the front which is worth some $$$ if it still works ) also helps hold it in place . and also if th eunit was used in a dirty atmosphere ( aka construction) the dirt wears the insides bad ( if it was a marine app they ussually are decent ) I have seen guys use them on there cars too , but in low boost apps ( 1-5 psi) and every once and a while you would hear one whistling, buzzing or making the sound like a person sticking there tongue out at you when it lifted and popped the gasket , but your going to find the prices of the new nose gear and overhaul is often almost as much as a new unit . and the manifold is hidious as its a 1" plate of aluminum and not covered by the unit and sticks out like a sore thumb .

Spoke with Rudy today, He said he hasn't had a price that low in years. He was closing his doors soon. Sad to see another one go...Stimpy was right on the case. Dyers has a pretty good name but so does The Blower Shop...(805) 581-1441 Ask for me LOL

  22. Old thread, but on Sunday I saw 2 V series blowers mounted on a triangle shaped manifold canted and parallel with head deck surface.
    Pretty neat piece of engineering.
I wanted to hear it running but missed it.

Dyers is awesome. Been racing and building them nearly before any of the other companies today were thought about. I shipped a pallet of diesel blowers, and rotors up to him about ten years ago. I recall sending him one of those as well. 50 to 150 a unit depending on rotor and case conditions. He is a completely honest guy to work with. Just him and his son. Cut me my check, from there to Dallas.....almost immediately. Crazy to think I would have done that then.....he could have kept them, and just not answered my calls. What the hell would I have done?? In any event, I have recommended him ever since. 3 of my friends have purchased and had stuff rebuilt by him, always, always, always, ALWAYS standing behind his product.....and willing to listen to whatever you want to do. Yes, old thread....but if anyone wants to ear terrorize a great blower man, regarding what they want to use....Dyers Blower Service is the ****.
