What a great thread! Drove up the Pacific Coast Highway in 1975 in a '56 Ford Half Ton then across I-80 home to Connecticut. Everyone should drive cross country just to get an idea of what is out there. Finally saw a wheat harvest in 1994 on a trip to Wyoming, the dust blocked out the sun. In 2002 we flew into Salt Lake City and rented a car to drive through Southern Utah, that is a trip everyone should take. Debbie got to see the Pacific for the first time on that trip. Not sure if the ride down the Pacific Coast Highway is as good as the trip north. I really want to see what is north of I-80 someday. Bob
The difference between the Atlantic and the Pacific? ALL of the continents in the world combined would fit in the Pacific ocean. It's HUGE. Also, the word "Pacific" means "peaceful", and a calm ocean is a good ocean ...
The Pacific Coast is amazing, I drive parts of Hwy 1 nearly every other weekend even though I live 96 miles inland. BTW, 95% of California is rural land with tremendous geographic diversity and no population density or traffic to speak of. The central and north coasts are favorite haunts. Travelling the world I have learned I can only go 2 weeks without tacos. I live 12 miles from the Sierra Nevada foothills and also spend lots of time in Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks.
I need to check out that Sequoia National Park. Special Ed- Great looking roadster! You guy have roadster weather the entire year! The car looks good next ocean.
Hurricane season. If I want to go to the beach, it's a short drive. On the east coast, the beach will come to you
Ive seen the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. We went to Austin for Christmas and on the way home Frankie asked "Where would you like to go , if we could just take off and go?" I said I would like to see the Gulf of Texas. In the early70s she lived in the very tip of Mustang Island. She said "Lets go this spring" Aransas, here we come. I forgot how I love the Hill Country.
Simple - Mike Love and the Wilson Borthers got it right; I been all around this great big world And I seen all kinds of girls Yeah, but I couldn't wait to get back in the states Back to the cutest girls in the world I wish they all could be California girls Yeah, but it seems that the majority want to live at or near the beach. By the way, that is true for Most of the US - 94.6% is RURAL or undeveloped!!!!! Ain't that the truth! The Gulf is cool, been there, but I'll still take our coast any day!
No good Tacos in NZ My '34 on the East Coast of New Zealand, just outside Opotiki, two weeks ago....summer storm on its way through.

I live on the East Coast of Australia, which makes the coastline the western side of the Pacific Ocean. Summer up north here is cyclone season. There have been 3 in the past 3 weeks. No real damage but super high king tides and minor flooding in some coastal towns. And there's a new cyclone brewing in the Coral Sea right now. So the fact is, in the Pacific, the beach can indeed come to you. You just need to be specific about which part of the Pacific you are talking about.
Cyclones? Hey, I am used to those! I hope the ones you're experiencing are not deadly like the ones that I am used to here in Oklahoma!
I know how you feel about the okie twisters. I lived north of okc at the corner of red clay and open fields. I use to fly rc plains and helies in more, so I know your area verry well. I moved to kansas to get away frim the F5's just to have one touch down about a mile from my house , unfortunatly many in joplin wernt so lucky. Now I'm Arizona bound.
I don't think so 4psi. Cyclones are the same as hurricanes and typhoons. You're getting mixed up with tornadoes.
i remember that ad jeff !! auckland where i live the narrowest gap between harbours is about a mile, no matter where you live in auckland your only 20 minutes drive from a beach. it must be strange feeling seeing the sea for the 1st time, i couldnt even imagine what that would be like.
but a cyclone is a METRIC hurricane. or a hurricane is an SAE cyclone. depends which way ya look at it.( i think that makes tornadoes unf)
You're funny Tony - but I think you know that for the discussion here, most are thinking of the Pacific Coast being the US Pacific Coast. Otherwise we will have to take into account what happens in a big chunk of Asia, Hawaii, Micronesia, Polynesia and lord knows what else. Let's just say we're talking about the North East Pacific (which is the West Coast of the US)
I like that idea Kevin. Anytime there's a car event near the ocean I feel like its a plus. Last year in New Jersey.
I think it's a good idea, and I like your style! Any good Taco's out there in Boise City? I don't think I have ever been there. I am hooked on the Taco's at Tarahumara's in Norman!!! Carne Asada!
Wow, make sure the parking brake holds, eh? I like tacos too and live within two miles of the Pacific which means bare metal rusts quickly. A Cyclone would be really bad news for me, i'm below sea level at high tide surrounded by only dirt berms.
Careful, boys. This place has a way of making you not want to leave it. I have lived on both coasts of the US. Left is best.
