Whats up? New to the forum my grandfather gave us his 1940 chevy truck on thanksgiving 2012 and we have been cutting it up ever since. I hope to find good info and get some help with questions on here as well as giving out some help.
this was from last summer when we threw it together enough to go to a couple of shows late in the year and give the truck a good shake down and its a good thing we did bc riding behind the truck it looked out of proportion to use so we new what had to be done
first we wanted to get the belt line of the cab down to the top of the box so we cut out the floor and channeled over the frame 3.5" and built a new floor the nice thing was the fenders and running boards dont hook into the cab anywhere so we didnt even have to touch the just channel the cab and take a section out of the nose to get the hood to sit right
Welcome to the HAMB. Shame you would want to street rod a nice old stocker like that with a mustang clip and billet rims...if that was my grandfather's, he would've shot me!!
The pictures made it look good. The truck was "restored" in the early 90s and wasn't done very well the box was rotted out pretty good under the wood, there was evidence of damage to the front, there was a repair to the pan in front of the radiator and the frame was out of wack in the very front. The truck sat in my grandfathers garage since 04 and there was 5-10 mice living in the truck. Most of the truck had 1/16 to 1/4 inch of filler spread on it and the old stove bolt was pretty tired and we told grandpa the only way we would fix her up is if we made a hot rod out of it and he said go ahead just make sure you take me for some rides and keep it in the family. My grandpa is almost 90 and in 2004. When the radiator went he put it away as it was getting to hard for him to use the clutch with his bad knee as well as work on it, so he was pretty happy that we were interested in taking it and making it road worthy again... now he wants us to take the 39 business coupe and the model a taxi he has but if we were to do that we would have to get second jobs haha...
welcome to the HAMB. Theres a 36-47 chevy truck group on Facebook thats a little more progressive FYI
