Hello, I'm Allison! My lil' 235 froze up the other day, and I'm lookin' to do an engine swap. Obviously the EASIEST thing to do is find another 235... and I have a suped up 6cyl fetish. But, I'm wonderin' what else will fit... are there other 6 cyl's with the same kind of mounts. How much customizin' is need to put a V8 in... meanin' is there enough clearance stock, will I be able to find a transmission that will fit. It's got an enclosed driveline, and I don't want to redo the rearend... so something that will bolt to my 3 speed would be wonderous... I'm basicly just wonderin' if anyone knows what is easily compatible! Thank ye! Allison
Hi Allison best thing to do is an introduction first- Do a search on 54 Chevs there is tons of posts on them. A v8 conversion is very easy to do on that car, basically you need a motor mount kit.
for a v8 you need...motor mounts, transmission mount, different rearend, driveshaft, then the brakes need upgrading, basically a drop in deal. drop in $3k and its a done deal. the drivetrain accepts all stovebolts, so the replacement is a 216, 235, 261, or a gmc 302. the trans is shit, and wont hold up behind anything else. another engine will need mods to work. now go do the requisite intro and give us the breakdown of your, well breakdown.
