Here are some pics of my version of a welded quickie. I used a 10 spline pinion and gear set along with a champ lower shaft and 10 spline gears. I have all the parts made, I haven't attempted to weld it up yet. I machined the rear cover out of a chunk of aluminum.
Very nice. I have that on my "to do" list someday. I've always ***umed there would be some facing and retruing of a few surfaces once everything was welded up.
Nothing like backyard ingenuity. My suggestion would be to add a case gusset brace to the front jackshaft sleeve as this point is a high load area and you do not need it to flex.
Do you planing on using a custom lower shaft alignment bar. You will be boring after it's welded up? I like this project please share as you progress
So, with the Champ lower shaft, you must be running the 3.25" shaft center-to-center spacing along with the larger change gears! Novel approach. Keep all of us informed.
I've started on a similar piece and planned to do the lower in a complete heavy tube and cut it out for gear clearance as opposed to 2 seperate pieces. Either way it'll still need machining for alignment. Judging by the cover I'll guess you have the shaft bearings in it? Did you make the cover or is it store bought?
