Does anybody know a ´33 or´34 Ford with Independent front & rear Suspension which was build at least 25, better 30 years ago? I Need some history of such a build for the historic german technical inspection. Would be thankful getting ***isted. An article in an old magazine or something comparable will help too. thanks Ingo
Boyd Coddington built lots of cars (32-34's) with front and rear independent suspensions in the 80's. Google his name and look at the images. He built AMBR which was a 33 phaeton for Larry Murray.
My dad put a Pinto (MII) front and Corvette rear in his '33 Tudor back in the mid 70's. The MII front end was just becoming known as an available option. I think there was a Street Rodder article on how to do it, but I couldn't tell you what issue. I'd guess in the '74-76 time frame. Before then, Corvair fronts were the hot setup, but by today's standards they are junk. Guys have been putting Vette & Jag rears in rods since the mid 60's. You should be able to find plenty of examples of those in old magazines.
Thank you Pewsplace, thank you Corn Fed, do you have any old Pictures or articles of old magazines or do you have any do***entation about your dads build Corn Fed? I Need Photos or a scan of something old.
What i am asking for is a General question. I would like to know when Hot Rod builders started to put IRS / IFS in 30s cars for example 34 Ford. I need some files, scans out of old Magazines or do***entation of builds with IRS / IFS back from the 60s 70s 80s appreciate any help. I have Mustang 2 in front and Corvette C3 in rear but i need old du***entations about builders who did that 30 years ago, do you have any paperwork? Thanks Ingo
I have hundreds of Mags going back to the '60s but no time to dig threw them all, your probably going to have to do your own leg work. I would start on E-Bay in the old Hot Rod, CarCraft, Street Rodder, etc. mags. They usually show the featured cars on the cover with a little bit of whats inside. You already know what your looking for so that's half the battle. Look for key words like Corvette, Jag, Corvair, Boyd................ You may also want to try HotRod Hot Line they catter to the IFS IRS crowd.
I'm guessing it was more of a European thing at first, since they had IRS way back. i do remember seeing some home-made IRS in the 1950's car magazines, can't say which ones?
