32 ford, '56 Chrysler 354 Hemi with truck heads , BBC waterpump , Walker rad. No way a bottom hose is going on now. I know you guys have sorted this out but I can't find anything in hemi tech threads so any solutions are much appreciated. I'm thinking maybe shortening the w/p inlet some. thanks
I took SS U-bends and welded up a tight radius and used short pieces of rad hose. You don't need stainless. Ago
I used a 7996 Napa (21285 Gates) with a 903 Napa adapter. Be sure to get a hose with a spring inside to prevent the hose from collapsing.
Make sure you have a bead or lip on the SS pipe so the hose doesn't blow off. I have 14000 miles on my setup, no problems. Ago
Thanks for the pointers. It kinda looks like my lower waterpump hose fitting is on the long side (Weiand w/p) which makes finding a hose tougher since it has to hike back in and forward.
I bend up some tig wire to the shape I want cut to length center m*** from pump to radiator....... ask the part store to look at all the hoses...go to the back and have spent up to an hour looking thru them all.........usually find a section of something that will work.........just make sure you measure both diameter ends you need..........Dave
I have a BBC in my '32 which has the same issue, and ended up making up a steel pipe up to the one that Ago did. My engine is very close to the radiator so I used donuts to get nice tight bends and then had it HPC coated in a black teflon finish which has held up ok so far. A friend of mine also has a BBC powered '32 and he modified his aluminum water pump and was able to use a simple off the shelf 90 degree rubber hose. He cut the lower water pump tube off at an angle, flipped it over and then TIG welded it back on (it is an water pump). This means it is pointing down more than out and gets around the issue of the hose having to come back in before it makes the turn to the radiator.
Sorry it's so dirty, but this combo has worked for 45,000 miles. After seeing this picture it's clear I need to give her a little love. chuck
