  1. Its amazing sometimes how some guys have NO idea what they have or have rose colored glases w their cars , guy offered me a solid ***led 69 mustang fastback for my 36 last night,(i'm semi looking for a 60's -71 era muscle type car) so i says "Ya, I'll look at it" he loads the thing on a trailer , hauls it 20 miles and shows up here w a 67 COUPE literal "fred flinstone car", a coupe mind you not a fastback, not even a 69, rotted to hell w plastic mud over the rust and primered over that like last night yeeeeesh! , man! was he pissed when I said no way in hell, just left and left a couple strips of rubber on the road behind him , then work calls and asks if i will work tonight instead of today, what a day so far , i'm gonna go bury my head  :(

i was just thinkin about the value of them mustang fastbacks....

you shoulda seen the one i went with to look at with a co worker about 5 years ago, i was the "expert eyes" it was a 69 fastback, mach 1 with a 351 i think, it had the shaker scoop. anyway, the car was SOLID it looked like it rolled from the factory underneath! it came from a small collector who kept it garaged, he scored it for something like 6 grand! then ended up trading it off, for of all things a clapped out 70 chevy truck! why? because one quarter panel had been replaced many years ago(collision damage), it wasn't a "virgin" body! i bet that dumb**** is kicking himself everyday now!

  3. hiYa Ray ! was just thinking about you , I'm going up to Grady's place sunday with that guy named Charlie B., no of your dads place. Yah, I know thats why I was so interested , I mean I was'nt mean or anything when I told him I was not interested, his eyes bugged when he got real look at my 36 though ,wanted it real bad + trying hard not to look like it , LOL, it was awful hard to keep a straight face and rotf lmao , I knew OF the guy, but never delt w him , he's one of those guys that study's the old car price guide like a bible and quotes prices like a pro dealer "your stuff is ****, but mine is top buck" type , fairly new to the area, brags alot at car shows that kind of thing, seen him around alot the last couple years, gbut hell ya gotta check , you MIGHT just hit paydirt once in a while :D

I've never admitted this in public before... I'm quite ashamed... you will never think of me the same way again...

I traded my 69 Mach I for an 83 Renault Le Car.

I deserve to go straight to hell.

I'm the fourth of four kids, born in 1980. My dad has told me many times that he was forced to trade in his '78 Silver Anniversary Corvette for a 1980 Chevy Caprice Cl***ic wood paneled station wagon to haul us kids around. Kinda makes me ashamed to have ever been born.

That's beyond comprehension.:eek: The Mustang, I could take or leave, but a trade implies that you actually wanted an 83 LeCar. That's hard to believe!:D

I've worked behind parts counters on and off over the years. I was amazed how many poeple came in looking for a part and didn't know what they drove. I had one lady literally didn't even know the make of car was she drove every day, put gas in and paid insurance. We had to go out and look at her car to identify it. She didn't even know the year.

Holy **** Hack, that's funny. A friend of mine had a Grand Prix SE that he re-arranged the letters on so it said Grand ***. That was a bad mo-chine.

Well, I think the Renault is now considerably rarer than the Mustang...the demand side of the equation is a bit weak, however...

Dad sold the 69 Big Block SS/RS Camaro convertible when I was born, afraid I'd fall out of the car or same damn thing, took the money and bought a new 1976 Hornet. I get reminded of that every time the barret-jackson auction is on TV.

Yea, but the same goes in reverse. I'm amazed at how many parts guys get their jobs. Needed rear wheel bearings for a 9" in a T we are building. Went in, said I need "rear axle wheel bearings for a F100 with a 9" rear 1972". OF COURSE the next question is "Who made the F100?",,,, Ummmm ok, I said "Ford",,,,,, of course followed with "what year",,,,, "like I said 1972".,,,, next one I FREAKING KNEW was coming "what sized motor?",,,,,, I said "shouldn't make a difference, pick one". The next question was when I just rolled my eyes thinking "god, why me?",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, "Does it have air-conditioning with that?" AUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

I loved that car... 351 Winsor... used to take it to L***iter Mountain and Holiday Beach drag strips when I was in high school... for graduation from high school my gift from my parents was a paintjob... Imron, the best stuff back in '83, dark blue with the obligatory flat black hood... black interior, NO a/c of course... (HOT HOT HOT)

I took it to college in Mobile, Alabama... where it was broken into 3 times... my parents wouldn't let me keep in AND get something else... so I had to trade it in on something... I found the LeCar... and at 40 mpg I thought it would be great for shuttling me and my skater buds around... which it was for the 1st 6 months, before everything started going terribly wrong. It then sat in my parents' back yard from 86 until last year when I sold it for $400 bux (and was amazed I got that for it)... of all the cars I've had, the Mach I was the only one that I wish I still had. But back then, there were Mach I mustangs coming out the wazoo... I didn't figure they'd become so rarish and pricey. I figured I could always find another... besides, when I bought the Mach I, I was really looking for a 66 fastback, so I was never really that happy with it anyway. I only paid $600 for it anyway!

I DID keep my other mustang... the 68 GT convertible... and still have it... and would rather have it than the Mach I to this day... but I do miss the Mach I.

I'm sure there is a twelve step program somewhere.... I don't think I'd be as much ashamed right now as grieving.

Hack! That was funny as hell!

Gracie...shame on you but reading the rest of the story, I almost understand.

Mustangs are insane anymore. Same goes for their owners. :D What gets me is that total turds go for big jack too! It seems like you can't touch one for less than 5k nowadays, and that's for one the needs new quarters, rockers, and floors! Nuts I tell ya!

    Gracie,

Thanks for the good read. My dad had a 68 RS Camaro vert that I drove to HS in the late 80's. He sold it in the early 90's because he said I was beating the piss out of it (I might have a little bit :D ). Same story here, I am reminded of that mistake everytime we see a Camaro. I tried to convince him not to sell it, but it was really hard for him to p*** up that 12k in cash sitting on its trunk.

I've never had a sorted bird in the hand like that nor a Le Car. I nearly bought a '66 GT-350H for $2,500/OBO when I lived in Ft. Worth in '79. I was 18, car ran & drove but needed work. Work certainly beyond my ineptness at the time but I still put money down on it. I ended up p***ing on it and took a monthly payment on a new '79 Mustang; a turbocharged Cobra version that lasted nearly 10K miles before I *****ically put it into a tree. That fate would have likely landed on the Shelby now certainly residing in a climate controlled garage somewhere. I guess it all worked out.

My mom had a Le Car for a few years when I was a kid. Even at that young age I knew that car was a piece! It had a huge canvas sunroof though.

  28. it seems that this topic comes up about every 6 months between my dad and me. he still regrets the day that my mom made him sell him 66' corvette stingray hardtop which had a factory 427/425hp with factory dual quads. they only had the one car at the time and my mom hated driving it i in traffic because of the racing clutch. today it books around $50k.

  29. I must be the only one who's story is the other way - I could still shoot my dad for selling the '70 Gran Prix he got new special order with a 4-speed manual in it. Was the first car I drove around by myself, but then some ***hole stopped to turn left, the guy behind him had a taillight out, and I missed the brake light because I reached over to mess with the radio - aftermarket decks didn't fit the dash so I'd hung it on the p***enger side in this tin thing - and messed up the front fender on it a little when I hit the brakes and just slid right into him with all 4 wheels locked.

So he got mad and sold it for like $400. I drove it back home from the accident, it wasn't that bad.

Maybe because I'd already totalled one car at that point, who knows. (at least the one I totalled was an '87 T-bird, nothing special).

On the bright side, my next car was a '60 Pontiac, so it could have been worse.

It has been told that a woman walked into an auto parts store looking for a "710" cap. Nobody at the counter could figure it out, so after a while she took them to her car parked out front and popped the hood. Sure enough, right there on the valve cover was a cap that read "710"..except when you turned it over, it read "OIL"....
