It looks like a box of champion spark plugs for a Hudson Invader engine that was used in a LST. Land, Ship, Tank.

 

Your box looks like it could hold one of these, that's traditional, and would fund a few hot rods!

 

Ozy, I was going to guess the long weights too, but took a chance with the 710 caps.

I opened one like that 30 years ago, it was flathead spark plug wires.

 

Guessing by the crap oops I mean stuff on your work bench,the spam can contains either a mag or mag parts circa WW2.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

Well - anybody who has ever opened one of these boxes would probably have known . . . or maybe just forgot. I think only one guy out of all of you might have been 'that guy'.

Okay - So What is It? - Set of Ford 1939 - 1942 21A Connecting Rods, Flathead V8, 221 Cubic inch (the Ford V8, not the Merc). These are what you use with an offset ground 49-53 Merc crank (2.138 rod journals to 2.000), with full-floater bearings to achieve the 4 1/8 stroke flatty. This was the most popular way to achieve a 296 cubic inch flathead back in the day - along with a 3 3/8 bore. I'll be covering the setup in another post.
