ONE OF THE BUSIEST ARTISTS/DESIGNERS in the field of Rods & Customs has to be STEVE STANFORD !

As you well know, his concepts & designs have been put on the streets time-and-time again, SO this "Steve Stanford Double-Play" Interview covers the SuperCool '63 Impala that began as Stanford-Sketch and was built by Barry Penfound, AND, our friend here at the H.A.M.B., Roger O'Dell's Larry Watson/Steve Stanford/Sam Foose Award Winning '57 Cad Seville !

You've seen the cars...now to listen and enjoy these stories by Steve of how his art helped inspire their builds simply Click-On-Here !

Steve is truly one of the nicest, most-talented guys in the Industry and, if you've got a personal "Steve Story"...bring it on !

That Impala turned out supreme! I dug the interview...very cool.
I'm surprised nobody built this Stanford design - Nova with a Corvair roof:

I think about this rendering time after time...I'm in love.

Great interview. Steve did the famous clock drive in poster that featured many of Larry Watson fabulous paint jobs. Roger O'Dell was a good friend of Larry Watson and he is the one that has provided the personal photos that Larry Watson took over the years. Great interview.

    hotrod1940...

Many thanks ! Yes, Steve told me the story about doing that Poster ! That's a story for another time ! BUT I had always wanted one, Steve didn't have any. Roger had a few left, had Steve autograph one for me, and sent it to me a couple of years ago...it's hanging in my garage as we speak !

Roger & Steve are both just what this Industry/Hobby/Sport are all about: Just pure CL*** !

    ryno, Vonzemo, Mikey's Pinstriping...

You all got it right ! Would love to see what you got from Steve's Stash, ryno !!

Steve's from St. Louis, as I am, that's what made the Interview so much fun. And he is just SO p***ionate about his Art...you can hear it in his voice in every part of these stories: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage82.html

    Thanks, beebing !

You're right-on-target with this car !! Steve never has done a "bad concept" ! His are ALWAYS perfect. And, Roger's Seville & the Penfound Impala Steve talks about in the Interview are rolling proof of that !! http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage82.html

    Thanks, again...

I can't help but wonder what became of the '57 fins.

Thanks, as always, Jonnie. You ARE the best!

  12. I've known Stevie for years, and he's the nicest guy you'll ever meet. There's not an arrogant bone in his body. He is so gifted and talented, but he's very shy when people give him praise. He's the biggest car geek you'll ever meet, and he'll blow you away at his car knowledge. He knows the foreign stuff as well as the American stuff, and he likes to use the foreign stuff as inspiration for some of his hot rod renderings. If you ever get a chance to go to his office, have him pull out a bunch of his old renderings that were never printed in any of the magazines. It'll blow your mind at some of the *****in' stuff he's done. The guy is an amazing visionary, with an imagination that borders on pure genius.

Many people don't know that he has a brother who is also an artist, but he specializes in faces and portraits.

I had Steve do a rendering for me years ago for a '67 Nova I was going to build with airbrushed '55 Chevy Bel Air side trim, and Halibrand spindle mounts in the front. He was building his red '62 Nova convertible at the time, and we brainstormed on the bubble top treatment on the early Nova. We came to the conclusion that that a '65-'69 2dr Corvair roof would work perfect. Rumor has it, Scott Sullivan was building a '62-'65 Nova with a Corvair roof. I'm not sure how far Scott got because he had a bunch of other projects he was working on at that time. Scott and Steve collaborated on a bunch of stuff back in the '90s.

Steve is the coolest. And his brain is like a custom car encyclopedia. Lucky to call him a friend.

There is a 1934 Ford coupe in the Bob Johnson collection here in Atlanta that was a collaboration of Steve, Larry Watson and Santini. It was owned by Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Signed by all three.

    Flat-N-Low,

Many thanks for the Info ! That car would be a killer ride if it was ever fully put together !

Right ! Steve is a kind, modest, and, should, like I told him at one time, be in Detroit...most of his designs are better than their's ! You can here the modesty, and, warmth in his voice in all of his stories:

    Spoggie...

Sorry you're having problems, but Safari won't lock-in Adobe Flash which my programs/ISP use to create the Site. Mac's can sometimes be a problem with that...that even happens to me if I want to use my iPod. You'll see the visuals/text, but Apple won't let you use Adobe Flash so you can actually hear the Audio.

There should be no problem with Internet Explorer/Microsoft applications, or a PC using with Google Chrome or Firefox.

Before I launch a story I triple-check it to make sure it's solid, and on-line, exactly as I produced it. Otherwise, an average of 15 to 24 hours of my time putting each one together would be wasted.

Again, my apologies, but that Apple/Safari situation is one I have no control over. But, I thank you for letting me know, as we have many fantastic listeners that log-on from your area and I respect each & every one.

    SPECIAL NOTE TO ALL...

Had a great conversation with Steve tonight...he's in great spirits, working hard everyday, and said to thank everyone here on the H.A.M.B. for checking-out his Interviews.

He said that he has been so locked-in on some projects that he hasn't been able to get to some of the shows he wanted to this year...but he's hoping to catch-up soon !

He said that when he does get out & about, he still gets compliments on both the cars that we talk about in this Interview: Penfound's Impala & Roger's Seville...he remembers the fun we had doing it !

Steve's from St. Louis, as I am, that's what made the Interview so much fun...Plus, he a really cool guy ! If you haven't heard it...enjoy it !!

is the caddy photoshopped in the above picture looks like it.

Steve has some of the best designs. they are realistic but with a factory concept feel. Wish I could afford to have him do work for me. I have an idea for a car but not the money to put it to pen (at least not today)

    Boones...

No Boones, both above pix of both the Chev & Roger's Caddy are the real finished product.

And, yes, I always tell Steve he should be in Detroit doing Concept Cars for Ford, GM, or, Chrysler ! Last night we talked about the GM Motorama "Dream Car" days...Steve would have loved to be part of that scene...and he would have been the BEST there too !

Thanks for giving me the lowdown on the caddy picture. It was the shadow that thru me off.

Would love to see Steve do a early 50's Chevy drop top with a first gen vette flavor. Skinny bumpers, same headlights with grills, tailights, smaller grill opening etc... Basically a four seater vette concept but still with the flavor of the p***enger car

  28. My name is Katherine Morris and I am an old friend of Steve Stanfords.

My Brother , Sean Morris and I are in the first stages of finally bringing you what you have been waiting for. We are working on getting a Steve Stanford website and limited edition , signed, numbered prints.

We started a Facebook page for him last night under Steve Stanford Designs and posted a few images of his rarely seen art. We have a lot more to share.

Steve really appreciates all of your support. He spoke of your page yesterday and asked that I keep all of you guys in the loop. Your appreciation of him has not gone unnoticed, he may not own or use a computer but Steve is well aware of the kind words you guys have to say about him.

Thank you all and please like us on Facebook.

We appreciate feedback on what you would like to see, while we begin design work on his website.
