I am going to be buying a pile of parts for my Olds engine and the seller sends this picture of a generator, it has some sort of pump with a reservoir connected to it. Likely from a mid 50's Olds but the seller isn't sure. I've never seen one before, but maybe it's a common part from the 50's. Can you guys help me out? Thanks J
Wow, thanks. I thought it might be but my 55 Buick had a p.s. pump with its own bracket and pulley so I wasn't sure.
The pistons have valve reliefs sort of opposite but not quite.......they appear to be Poly pistons, the lifters also appear to be Poly, the generator is similar to mid 50's mopar, the alternator is early 60's mopar.........dunno about any Olds bits.......andyd
56 & 57 Chevys also used a Delco p/s pump which was driven directly from the back of the generator, via a splined shaft protruding from the back of the generator.
the generator looks to be Autolite-Prestolite, it should have a tag. It is not Delco. The oil pumps are early Olds.
It's a 1956 and 1957 Chrysler power steering unit. Aftermarket part number is a 9115 for the generator. Facel Vega with the Chrysler engines use the generator for their tach drive but two ears are removed for that application. Rich (generator rebuilder since 1960)
Thanks again guys. I just wanted to ID the generator and pump, should've cropped the picture better. So much knowledge here.
Tommy posted a GM set up - they have a smaller pump - much like some of the later single units... going with it being Mopar.....and like most have said -it hopefully will still have the tag with the part # on it.....
I think if you look at the 56-354 Hemi in my albums you can see that gen. mounted on the motor without the pump, however the drive connection is visible.
