How much did you cut off of the head?

    .

  3. I'm not sure – I'm not doing the machine work myself. The shop told me they cut them "just enough to clean them up". Same thing with the deck height.

  4. Lookin' great David!

  5. So what carbs did you decide on?

  6. I found a pair of Carter 4758s, 500 CFM a piece. Together they'll flow about 750 CFM. Straight linkage.

I think I'm going to change the electric chokes to manual or eliminate them altogether.

  7. Rocker assemblies are rebuilt and installed and heads are torqued down. Progress.

Just a thought, since you decked the block and shaved the heads did you go with adjustable pushrods? you might want to check for clearance in the push rod hole since the pushrods are at a different angle and might rub. I had to open my holes up for clearance. Just a heads up.

any up date on your engine?

  11. I dropped it off at my builder a few weeks ago to have him fire it and break it in on the run stand. He's having a problem finding the correct oil pump drive shaft – he says the one that I got with the motor is too short. So either it's not the right one for the motor, or the oil pump is incorrect.

Here are a couple of pics from just before I took it back to him:

I had the same problem, I had to use the shaft from the 392, there are differences in the rear main bearing cap hight, I had a tread about this, will try and find it, I am also using a small block chevy distributor and adapter.

    ID code?
    Which oil pump?
    Length of the existing shaft/gear?

There's a minimum of 2, & possibly as many as 4, reported rear main cap heights, plus weather you're using a stock O/P &/or stock dizzy or an LA Dizzy.

  16. The block is a NE56
The distributor is a stock dual point with a Pertornix electronic conversion.

I can't get a measurement on the shaft or find out what oil pump is in it because the machine shop is closed today. I'll post the info when I get it.

  17. Fast forward – here's a little video of the new mill:

    Good sounding engine for sure!

  22. Awesome, Congrats!!!!

  23. Thanks Martin, No, it's not coming home today. Stewart still needs to button up a few things. He's going to recheck the rockers, he needs to put my flywheel bolts back in, check the balancer because it has a wobble, and add a timing mark and the pointer. Plus we're supposed to be getting some really bad weather so I'll just leave it there for a while.

Thanks a ton guys. It's been an educational although expensive trip. I think I'm going to let this thread die now and just update the main build thread going forward. Thanks again.

  24. Sounds awesome, looks like jewel Dave !
    Ok, before the thread dies-
What did you feel when you first heard it start up?

I'm surprised he let it idle as much as he did. It will sound a lot more mellow when you get the ex system on it.
