1970 Chevy 454

    I ended up in trade with a standard bore 2 bolt from the casting# its 1970 to 74,its got a standard bore, does anyone know if these are any thing special or just a $200 core? Im wanting to post it on the local cl

    Nothin overly special there, just a good core ready to be built.

    It would be nice to narrow it down a bit because 70 thru late 72 used forged cranks,after that they were all nodular iron.The forged crank would make it a more desireable piece.

    My dad had a '72 454 in a Chevy station wagon. That thing only had about 150 horses.

    They were dogs,no doubt,but there are parts that can be used to build a good motor. The block,forged crank,7/16" rods (sometimes),even the heads are ok if they are not peanut ports.Put some 9:1 pistons and a decent cam in it and you have the basis for a decent street motor.If it has a forged crank you can build it all the way to LS-6 specs.Get some rectangle port closed chamber heads,11:1closed chamber pistons,7/16" rods , the 425 hp cam and your in business.

    They definitly are only a "parts " motor though in stock trim.
