32 sedan roof insert question.

I did a search and found a bunch of ribbed insert ideas but I want to fill my roof to seal the car up and then put the original tack strip and roof material on. Any body have any donor car ideas that they have used.

 

That's exactly what I did on my '28, although I haven't yet installed the vinyl. I used an '86 Toyota minivan roof.

Walden Speed Shop has a perfect filler.

 

I dont have the fundage to go that route. i figured that I can find a donor car and if the contours arent quite right the pad under the top material can be shaped.

 

I used one from a mid 70s ford full sized stationwagon. It fit like it was made for it.

 

Look at the Eastwood Barakat build thread on here. I think they tell what roof they used on their budget build. It looks perfect when you see the car.

 

One of my friends used the roof off an '85 Dodge Caravan (magic wagon), but reversed it when fitting (front to back). Turned out really nice. Hope this helps

 

Rusty, if you can get a copy of the July 2013 issue of Hot Rod Deluxe magazine, Roy Fjastad of West Coast Street Rods has a step by step photo layout of the job. Walden, as already stated has the insert.

It fit very nice and was that baby packed very well when it arrived. Top it off Bobby is a very nice guy that is always encouraging!

Thanks for all the input guys! I found a toyota minivan skin that just gary used in a model a. I made a template from the 32 and the toyota is a damn close match. hopefully the salvage yard doesnt want an arm and a leg for it.

 

Early 60's ford station wagon roof skins were often used for this.

 

as were the `57-8-9 ford sw.

 

I cant bring my self to cutting up a mid fiftys wagon unless it was totaly clapped out. Minivan or big 4 door sedan on the other hand, give me a cutoff saw. thanks for all the input guys.
