   I heat springs all the tome and have never had any problems

   Go under the car and take a look at the spring pocket, im pretty sure the pocket will hold the spring after it's cut.
   
   The rear springs on my 70 Monte are cut on top and the spring pocket holds them just fine.
   
   OT or not i would avoid heating springs
