My nephew is graduating from Auto mechanic's school soon and I wanted to give him a special award to 'kick off" his Hotrod career. I aquired this special piston and I nickel plated it and mounted it to a vintage clock base. The piston is huge. It came from a 1970 427 Ford GT 40 motor. It's complete with all of it's compression and oil rings and drilled main cap for balancing. A cool piece!

Anthony- He's completely satisfied on his traing there. There are strict homework projects, lots of studying. No horse play, getting drunk, etc is allowed. you are on you own but monitored. If you look like you were out partying the night before, you're flagged and if it happens again, you're out. They want competent mechanics and usually have placements for the classmates. He's leaned quite a lot and hopefully will be tesching this old dog some new stuff.

  16. thanks for the reply, There are threads here on this subject and some are very jaded. Thanks for the honest answer. I have students who are curious about these school, one who is headed to MMI. Keep encouraging your nephew, we need good techs out there.

That's as much as we can do as mentors. Stress encouragement and dedication. My nephew has always seen my cars and showed interest in why I've done the things my way. He is only 19 years old but I've told him with hard work and some time, you can make a good living and be creative in his own way. One bright spot, he's remembers everything he's done, can tear down something, see a problem and re-assemble it. Hey, that's 90% of most fix its.
He seems to dig the 40's & 50's car crazy stuff from movies and stories. He's the type of guy when driving anywhere, likes to name every car, their engines and performance options and....hey, I did the same thing!

Update: I presented my nephew with his award last weekend. He was excited and glad that his new adventure is about to start. He has received several opportunities but has not decided on the one. As soon as I find out, I will post it.
