It’s almost done except for minor t******* and sanding out the shrinker marks.
Then I mounted the windscreen. Just need to do the final trim.

Finish roughing in the left & right sides and then the top. Then welded them together and finished the seam.

  3. Nice progress, my pump arrived yesterday. Must have come from NC by donkey! It was ordered on the 15th.

  4. You won't be sorry with this cooling system. I'm lucky that I have several marine supply outlets close by and just drive over to get the pumps.

    Looking real good Skip!

  6. Skip, how big are the holes in your spraybar?

    Skip, I have a question:

I built a rad in a tank, but submerged the whole radiator, instead of using a pump and spray bar. The heat absorption is awesome!

What is the advantage of the pump and spray bar in this setup?

  8. I will let Skip answer that Buddy but what I am doing is the rad will be submerged and the intercooler will be on top of it. Both will be in contact with the ice but the spray bar will also hit the Intercooler.

Trent, then why not submerge the intercooler?

Or if it's an air-to air style that you are spraying, why not use one like Tony made on his REMR, and run ice water through it?

Just asking, because it seems simpler to me, but I might be missing something.

  10. I am doing both Buddy, they both will be submerged but the pump and spraybar will just help circulate the water and alleviate hotspots. I will be pulling the cold water from the bottom and spraying it on the top.

And I love tonys setup! But at our HP levels it may be overkill for now. Sorry for the thread hijack Skip! Thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. What - I love hijacked threads, look at what we learn. At least you're not insinuating I'm a tool.

Buddy – Thanks for the compliments, It’s been a long project.

Trent – the holes in the spraybar are 3/16” spaced 2.0” apart.

As Trent said, the concept behind this system is I don’t have to run it completely full of water. I envision the pump/spraybar will circulate the tank water around the outside of the radiator to address any possible hot spots on the radiator and cool the top of the radiator. I envision I’ll need to run the water lower, below the top of the radiator when running Elmo late in the season. It gets cold out there in the desert and I don't want to warm up a full tank of water. At Bonneville I envision running high boost, where I’ll bring the water to the top of the radiator or above, and the spraybar will be along for the ride. However, the pump will still be on and circulating tank water to address hot spots. Now if my numbers are correct I will always run less water in the tank and use the spraybar to regulate cooling as I have a rather large radiator in there. If I screwed up, I’ll go to max fill and be done with it.

Skip, the land car is looking real fine and I do hope you get it on the dry lake later this year. Be sure to post when you are going so I can scratch off another thing from my "BUCKET LIST".

See that canadaal has the SDRA or HA/AGR ready for it's first p***es next month at his local track opener, will be ever interested in that 308" motor performance.

Keep up the good work, the day is coming soon.:)

Yep, Al has done a good job on the HA/GR and the big motor should be quick.
The Roadster has taken a lot of time to get going and it came off the build table last weekend. Only have to finish the trans tunnel and then it’s on to finish welding. It should run El Mirage before the year is out. You should come out to El Mirage as they are running this weekend.

Looks great, and will be nice to see in person at Bonneville. You hoping for 2014?

  17. Yep, the plan is to sort it out at El Mirage later this year and then make a proper effort at Bonneville in 2014...

  18. congrats, great to see it on its feet.I bet it's a great feeling to view the car from another perpsective, no longer at eye level, but from a distance.
Love the profile, and knowing where you're going with it should haul booty.

Congrats again, keep chipping away, one weld at a time.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

  19. A little slow on the updates, but it rolls. Finishing up the wiring and its off to the dyno. It will make El Mirage in May.

Hi Skip, I doubt if you remember me, we talked on the phone about track roadsters probably 15 years ago. Your car looks great, it is well thought out and executed. I will make it a point to look you up at Speedweek.

  21. Like I said on landracing..........looks killer Skip!

I absolutely remember the conversation. Your roadster is still the benchmark for all who follow. Looking forward to meeting you at Speedweek. Didn’t you build a car for Bonneville?
Trent – thanks, and you have a stunning rendition of the SOSDlakester. Too bad our shops weren’t closer, I’d swap out some fab work for paint work.
As mentioned on Landracing; My test program will eat the nonexistent paint budget. Now, if I had some volunteers, I’d paint in my shed, ala Dr. G - there’s beer here boys!

  24. Just joined the Milers.

  25. Thank you very much! I am staring the drawing right now trying to figure out the sequence to spray it! It would be fun if you were closer, I am literally and fuguratively in a LSR desert here.

Skip, I am currently building a Rear Engine Modified Roadster for a friend of mine. It is a 25 body and will be powered by a blown flathead. It's a different experience for me, as weight has always been a concern in most of the stuff I have built in the past. We are certainly looking forward to August, good luck with your cool project.

That car is looking great. My niece's hubby has a shop that caters to those engines and gets some serious horsepower out of them, this should be a fun one to watch.

Yo Skip! The car looks awesome! Was great talking to you last night and I hope I gave you a few paint ideas! Keep up the awesome work!

  29. I was talking to Hotrod 49 (Kustombrad/Landspeed) about colors for the car. I really Trent's blue concept so I was already predisposed when Brad suggested the color is off my 49 F1 (which I sold to finance this truck). Brad suggested 2 tone on the frame/body.

So I threw it out over on the photoshop thread. the "themoose" took a crack at it.

I'm really liking it and I think Trent's gonna approve! Now if I could just find some volunteers to paint the damn thing!
