i called to get a fuel tank today for my 33 chevy 3w coupe, tanks makes a tank for 28-32 and a tank for 34-35. they say guys have used the earlier tanks for the 33 but they could not tell me what was involved. has any one done this?
Tanks should have the dimensions available for all their tanks, this should help some. I used a "Tanks" poly tank made for a 35-6 Plymouth and installed it behind the rear axle under my 37 Chevy coupe, works like it was made for it. do some homework, you'll find a solution. Good luck.
thanks! i am starting my home work here! rock valley makes one for the 33, $850 + $100 shipping and a 5 week wait.
Lets see if this will take. I have the pdfs for all the specs, but here are the fuel tanks: 1933 - is attached, looking for the earlier specs
If you need more specs for your build, go here: http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits.html They have the pdf's there that have all the specs you will need for your build. Very helpful website.
here is a shot of it installed. the filler neck was moved and cut down, it was originally hot rodded the tank was rotated so the filler pointed forward, and a hose went to a filler neck in the rumble seat floor. years ago i rotated it back and blended a filler into the back panel and connected it with a short hose. i want to put it back to the way it was from chevy.
found out the earlier tank works if the filler neck gets cut and extended with a 2" piece of hose. $270 tank, straps, grommet, $30 shipping.
They are VERY good quality, though. I've seen one of their tanks for a 32 Ford after the Ford was rear ended. The tank was badly crumpled, but it still did not leak.
Yeah the 33 pdf on there is one of the best there for the actual specs. I downloaded them a couple years ago when I started looking for an old chev. One of these days I will have one to put all that info to use...lol
that is a good argument for spending that money, but i ordered the early year [28-32] tank i will check it out when i get it in.
I have used the earlier tank from tanks on a 27 chevy sedan and a 28. it worked great and it looks like your 33 tank from the pictures. I like it because it' steel. Anything can be made to fit. well almost anything.
On my Dads 33 master sedan we used the original as a pattern and had a metal shop make and roll the top and bottom out of 14 ga. material. Then we cut some sides to fit and welded it all together. After it was welded together we heated and flattened the area for the filler, cut the hole and welded the filler off of the original tank. welded bungs in it and sealed it. It took about an evening to put it all together and spent under $150 on it. The hardest part was making sure the filler neck was in the exact spot. It's always an option.
