i have a 1958 corvette rear axel and a 55 chevy rear axel. why are the corvettes rear axel flanges clocked? meaning the wheel cylinder dosent sit flat. when the rear backing plate is bolted on?and the wheel bearings 55 are open to see the rollers and the 58 sealed thanks

There are some Corvette guys here, possibly a few that are knowledgeable with all the idiosyncrasies of the early Corvettes and will be able to answer your question. HRP

Duntov was doing evything he could to get vettes to live in endrance racing, the sealed bearing must have performed better. The backing plates, wheel cylinders are most likely for clearance when a wider drum is used, how's it look when the brakes are ***embled?

A spool would be hard to find but you get the same thing by welding the spider gears.
