So I've been trying to find a new gas cap for my '61 falcon wagon but all of the ones I'm finding online say they aren't for the wagons. The cap I have on it now is a generic locking cap that doesn't hold a seal very well and I end up with spillage with I turn a corner when the tank is close to full. Where can I find a cap that will work with my wagon? Any help is much appreciated!
Oh boy - got the Falcon wagon ( nice job!)...and now you're realizing the cap is not just a Falcon cap. Yeah - sorry. Lots of us have felt that pain. They're always missing and kind of scarce. (Pronounced, "expensive"). So here is some info to help you out= ~There is no reproduction of it. ~There is no store-bought modern one that will look right. ~When looking on ebay, etc., look for an original for: '60-'63 Ford Falcon wagon / Mercury Comet wagon / Ford Ranchero...only. ~They're different than the "cars". Unless you get a deal they usually bring over $100. in an auction situation. If I find an extra one soon (I do occasionally)...I will let you know on here. I am here in NV also. Have fun with it.
Here are some good HAMB Falcon links. If you don't want to use links you can do an advanced search for the ***les. ~The Rust Ranch" (Ranchero) He installs a new Spectra Premium gas tank and sending unit, and talks about the obnoxious leaking the filler necks do no matter what, it seems! The filler neck issue is just that. The problem is not with the cap. This has been a problem since they were new.
Good luck with the cap. 20 years ago when I started my Ranchero, Same gas cap, They were asking 150 bucks for them and there were none to be had.
there is a wagon cap on ebay right now (as of last night) for I think under $50. I just did a ranchero so found out the hard way about this piculiar issue. This one has the curve and is for the wagon and ranchero which are the same.
