Well KoppaK has put up another easy auto ID quiz which had a good answer within 1 minute. Now lets see how long it takes before some one has the correct answer for this part that is hanging on the end of a 1937 FORD front axle. Left & Right. It,s a 100% functional too. Made in the USA as well. No prizes being offered. You just get the satisfaction of knowing that your an allround car-nut.
Looks something like the set up to mount a set of ski runners on the front for winter use. Possibly for rural postal delivery. just guessing. jerry
Geeeeeeeez, You guys are fast. The 3 inch piece of pipe at the inside bottom is where the ski goes on.The 8 inch rod at an angle is for the safety pin that clicks into the oval hole at the top when you flip it around. Gets the wheels up about 8 or 10 inches. Here,s the back axle as well. Notice the difference in height between the main axle and the end of the stub. This was on a 1937 Ford Tudor Slantback SNOWPLOUGH that was imported to The Netherlands from Colorado ages ago. The thing even had steel tracks with a total of 6 wheels to run the tracks.
Here's another one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=4587614137&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT
Thanks MP33, Here,s what my '37 looked like. The doors were sliced to clear the tracks. This was a mint body. Except for the damage caused by sloppy tracks.
I'd bet a few DPW's in New England have a relic like the truck conversion forgotten in their back lot.
