I forgot my camera last year, so I took some this trip. I know I don't live far from LA but I only go about once a year. This year was lunch at Phillipes, walk over to Union Station, walk to Angels Flight, the Peterson and Pann's for dinner. These might be old news to some but I travel very little and I'm easy amused . Some of LA hidden and not so hidden treasures:
We went on valentine's day this year and made a whole day of it. Those who are unfamiliar with the places: http://www.philippes.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Station_%28Los_Angeles%29 http://angelsflight.com/ http://www.panns.com/ This is a link for the rail car under the covers, as it was. http://laist.com/2008/07/12/laistory_the_19.php http://www.pacificelectric.org/
Yup, my fat*** walked......my girlfriend was shocked too. Mainly I already paid for parking . Next year or the end of this year (I only go when it's cold), I'll scope out some other relics of the past. The subway car is an original one hiding in plain sight for 50+ years..........thanks Huell.
Went to LA for lunch at Phillipes again and this year went to Pasadena......no pics as it was all new and kinda boring. Went to Russells for dinner (opened in 1930)If it get cold on one of my days off, I'll go back to LA and find some old street car tracks.
looks like a hell of a cool trip! Never even heard of the Angels Flight, gotta file that for future reference! Thanks!
Very cool pics , I love that stuff . Next time you go down there you should check out the public library in downtown. Amazing architecture and they even have free guided tours, some great history and beautiful workmanship. Thanks for sharing your pics.
There's lots of OLD in Pasadena if you know where to look. Hutch's BBQ on Walnut City Hall Castle Green Pasadena Station Colorado ST Bridge
Cool - frame #10 of the Peterson is a home built car from 1939 that was raced on the dry lakes and driven on the streets of LA - name of car is Meteor. seen at many shows throughout California.
