A Google search shows a Harris company in the UK that makes magnesium motorcycle wheels....

There was a company that made a "copy" of the American Racing Torq Thrust D wheel with gussets. I could never find out who made it. Perhaps it was Harris?

I picked the rims up at Pomona Sat. morning. The guy had no idea about Harris rims either. Could not find anything about Harris on the internet. I had several friends who know a lot more than I do about magnesium rims and it stumped them as well. There was a company in Oklahoma that made magnesium rims back in the day but no idea of their name. Any help?

I think Creitz from Oklahoma made magnesium wheels but I have only seen pictures of a spindle mount with spokes kind of like the American 12 spoke.

  6. Looks a Hell of a lot wider than 10". Camera angle?

ssaza25: I have never seen a Harris wheel before either. Sure looks like it came from an American mold? The California company I recall was Kens Wheels, there's we're mostly not spoke style. Those are a tuff looking pair of rims!

I picked these up recently. They are off of a AJ Foyt Indy car from the late 60's-early 70's. The guy I got them from answered an ad in Hemming's and picked them up at AJ Foyt Chevrolet in the 70's-early 80's(foggy date memory).

They are magnesium. 2 are 15x10 and 2 are 15x14.

Does anyone know who made these?

    Thanks,

    Jason

  9. These are Eagles, I believe made by Halibrand - check out the cool, "stay-on" wheel nuts.

Thought I would update my 16" no holes from a couple of pages back... They are temporarily living comfortably on my T-Bucket until the dollars fly back into my pocket for another pair of Hurst slicks for my Americans, and easily triple the value of the 'Bucket...

Good story about these wheels though - 'bout a month ago a good buddy of mine called me up to come see a late fifties Super Modified they had broke out of one of their many storage containers in original condition. My buddy Nick was still working when I got there, so the shop kid "Wings" walked me back to the car and started talking. It too had a pair of 16" no hole Halibrands on the front, and the kid proceeded to tell me all about 'em! How rare they were, that they were made of some sort aluminum space metal-blend, They were actually cast originally for airplanes, how I would never see another set in my entire lifetime... I listened amused and said, "they are identical to the pair on my car out side". He responded with how that wasn't even possible and I'm "high" and these are soooo rare, That mine were probably copies that were made from stolen molds in the sixties, and nobody has them, and they were originally cast for airplanes....

Maybe not so Rare , but the wheel on the right is a CHRYSLER Wire , see how the spokes are on the outer part of the Rim, allows you to run an uncut Ford 9 inch rearend and still keep the tires under the fender

These Cragar SS wheels are 16" X 8" with a 5" by 5 bolt pattern (Early Olds, Pontiac).
They are dated 6-68 and are in great shape. The tires are 16" X 10" Goodyear Blue streak slicks.

100_4478.JPG Aaron, I believe they are ANSEN Sprint. For some reason The 16" didn't have the name or any numbers cast into the back side. Here are my NOS Ansen slots. These were machined by Ansen on the gussets to clear the Hurst-Airheart Disc brakes. Mine are early production and use the rare 5 ear caps with the red lettered logo. I believe yours used the push in cap with the black lettered logo. And yours were also double drilled by some owner.

    Ok, They are Ansens.
These wheels and tires were never used. They must of left Ansen double drilled, because all 10 lug nut holes are equally spaced apart. There are no washer marks on the counter sink area. Check out the 3/4" built in rear spacer on these wheels. They can be machined off for more backspace.

Once in awhile you can still get a deal. Found these 15 X 15 Cragars on Craigslist. Crappy picture and poor description in the add. Sold the old Firestones for more than I paid for the whole shebang. Used to have a small collection of magnesium wheels, sold them all for decent money 15 years ago. Now I'd have to raid my kid's college fund to get them back! Oh well we all know the old cliché about hindsight. Have a great weekend all.

Found out today that the rims are Manesium American "D" spokes. They were custom order from American racing with there racing team name casted into the rims.

ssaza25 : Thanks for the reply. I kinda had an idea they were . I have a pair of 8" that look identical ,without the "Harris". 2nd generation "D" spoke; I think about 1968 vintage. Enjoy 4CB11628-3472-4B2F-A3A5-AC92E5AF256B.jpeg

Just picked up a pair of Kelsey Hayes Stripper wheels. These wheels (in general) aren't incredibly rare, but these are 15x4-inch front runners...very rare size, mostly used on factory drag cars. Used on Fred Gibb Camaros, Ford Drag Team Mustangs.

I picked up a set of 4 Hurst wheels to put on me 62 LeMans. They were advertised as 5 on 4 1/2, damned if 2 were 5 on 4-3/4. Oh well?

Unusual 2 piece aluminum 15x3 1/2 skinny slots. Very light. Constructed like a steel slot, great quality. No markings of any kind. I've been told some Howard's wheels were aluminum, can anyone verify?
