Took the new RPU out for its longest test run and came across this cool spot. SORRY- I thought Boones was still on and could ad a resized pic for me- what he sent me is just a link that I cannot post- hopefull he will add the pic SOON!
Funny thing is I took about 1000 pictures this week and only 5 of them were of the pickup on the way home from the "super secret" shoot. I will take some more pics of the RPU tomorrow.
NOTICE: The perfect RPU has just been built. Everyone else can stop trying. This thing is a stunner. Awesome. I love it. JH
DAMN! Thanks, but you haven't even seen the good stuff yet. The dash ('35 Chevy w/original paint and gauges), original commercial Model A upholstery, '09 Model T gas tank in the bed, relocated rear frame horns and spreader bar, and it will be getting a full hood (an optional 3-door model). Thanks again! Jim Additional info: Axle is a 5-inch Magnum w/original A perches and Speedster friction shocks split '32 bones Repo Lincoln drum brakes reversed firewall chopped and laid back windshield bed shortened an addtional 8-inched over the Brookville proportions '40 Deluxe Steering wheel, rims and caps (no rings) 5.00 and 7.50 16-inch 'stones Ram's horn manifolds (2 1/2-inch) dual Smitty mufflers all tucked up and not visible from street The build was kept in line with "what would it aesthetically look like if built by a military guy right after WWII". Nothing is chromed (only shiny stuff is original stainless). Nothing is weled or fabbed that is not 100% necessary for function- no fluff. The hood will bring home to its true 1949-'52 appearance.
so hows the "bug' runs going? found anything wrong yet? have you done the crawl all over and retighten? It can be amazing what you miss sometimes...
Well, the muffler guy took off the trans cooler without me knowing it so that the second time I took it out of the driveway it blew the loose lines and oiled down the street in front of my house like the E**on Valdeez- not pretty!
'Cept for that smallblock eh? Just giving 'ya a hard time there Jim. Very nice little truck. I'm building my closed cab pickup in the same style. Late 40's-early 50's with lots of military influences. Now.....How about some more pics!!!! Josh
Jim, the truck looks too cool. That spot has been on my list of " The tikis I could carve in there. There's even a spray booth to boot! Needs to be a speed shop now!
It certainly has style and a very "lick me" color. You hit the mark on the post war look. Hopefully you'll get more pictures up soon! **x Brandy
PLUS- NO freebies! (and you thought all us magazine guys were *****s ) So it should be in R&C??? The cover you say- I think the boss is listening...
Yeah, if you put it in R&C you guys can list all of the advertisers that have parts on the car... PERFECT for the cover man! Seriously though, you did good with that car man. Given the parts used, I'd call it perfect...
and to think you once built the "circus truck" or whatever that thing was called... jim, you are living proof that the ability to talk **** and the ability to build cars are not inversely proportional... you can talk **** with the best of them, but **** ME that is a sweet car. i love it.
Make it clear before someone else does- I designed the car, gathered the pieces and delivered them to my good friend Lynn Bird to screw together because he has a wayyyy fancier tool box than me. I hauled the pieces back and forth to the paint shop, the seat to the upholsterer and made all the runs to the auto parts store, hardware store and paint shop, but it would have taken me 10 times as long to actually bolt it all together myself. If this was my car I would have done more- but it's for my good friend who actually bought the aforementioned "Circus Wagon" that I did build myself. I'm tooo busy "talkin' ****" to do this alone
That thing is ace. got me thinkin about building ANOTHER one ,but on 32 rails.. Also got me wondering what mine would look like with a 32 rad shell instead of the whippet one.. And its interesting how much reversing the firewall makes it look 32-ish. top job Mr A.
