Ive been a lurker for about 5 years now, not much to contribute as far as personal projects until recently. I decided it was time to thin out my car collection, mostly vw's and focus on the ones I really wanted. So I sold off a few, bought some to flip, and searched for my "Keepers" and have finally got them. Number 1,not by preference just found it first, is my 1959 VW Double Cab truck, first year, less than 200 made. It is rough, not as rough as it was the day I got it,had to replace the entire frame,uni-body,so allot of spot weld and some precision cutting, now its a driver, saved from the crusher. Now on to #2, this is my dream car, maybe not this particular one,but as close as I can get, a 1949 Mercury 4 door, chopped, sub framed and very little rust,350/350 and a 10 bolt rear already installed. This is the car that I will be bugging everyone who wants to listen about. Its going to be a big undertaking but from what ive read here in the past 5 years I know ive found the guys to help,so thanks in advance for everything ,all the answers, parts leads, correction, and guidance and direction,I will post pics as soon as I load them up.
Nice intro, welcome from the Great State of Maine! I remember my does in Jacksonville, was in the service at Mayport, lived in Ortega park over by the Roosevelt Mall, always wonder what it's like forty years later? Good luck with your 49.
Thanks for the warm welcome,as far as Jax goes, not much different. Regency mall is all but abandoned, crime is through the roof, but where isn't it. We have a good bunch of car guys, close knit ,but only a few Mercs.
Just checking in, allot has changed in the past few months, bought a new house, built a few vw's and am moving my shop to the new house. So after the move is complete I will be starting on my Merc . I will start a build thread and link it here. I am also a member on Garage Journal and will be posting about the new shop.
