I thought I'd ask how tacky it would be to put in a snap-in
    sun-roof
    (izzatt whatcha call'em???)
    on a 50's full-size....
    Fairlane/Desoto/chrysler (any) combination.

    well...
    No GM.
    not gm...

    Definately no Caddilac's.
    No PINK CADILLAC'S

    I'm thinking...
    rolled and pleated???

    Please, ladies and gentlemen,
the pics must be out there...

    Let's see 'em.

    Or is just too much?
    No good?

    TOO TACKY??

How often do you USE and ENJOY a sun-roof anyway?
    Do they suck?
    Do they leak?
Do they suck when they leak?

  2. Only Vans. Tacky is an asset in a van.

Now, what can I say to hi-jack this thread?

It strictly depends on the length and color of the shag carpet.....

  7. Best place to get it? I like to get-it-on on shag carpet at the Van-in.

Sunroofs just aren't very tastefull in an old car... and they certainly aren't traditional...

I was thinking about a "snap-on, white pleated" big-ass cover over the hole
    cut out in the roof,
    not a tinted tilt-up hunk of ...
    (use your imagination)

I was thinkinking something that would make it more into a convertable type set-up, but would leave the glass and the top rim of the roof.

    (no air-conditioning you know)

Doesn't your roof have the ribbing in it like mine? Not sure if that's the correct term for the indentations that run from front to back on the roof. I have several pics of your car, but I never remembered seeing that sunroof! And watermelon kicks ASS!! :p

I always liked the smell of coffee....just never dug on the taste....just kinda tastes like you let whatever you were intending to make get REALLY watered down...(kinda like a almost empty glass of soda that you let all of the ice melt, and then drink it anyway...) or maybe it just tastes like piss...:) :)

How about those vintage Webasto folding sunroofs? You see them mostly on old beetles, but sometimes on other 50's and 60's sedans.

 Hmmmm, my coffee tastes great right now. You're makin' yours too weak if it tastes like piss. Mine doesn't turn into piss till I process it through my system.:)

  28. Hey that's not a sunroof its a hot house. Ya gots tomatoes growing in there somewhere?

We're talking like a roof insert here right. something long the lines of what a '30s sedan has only on a later model car right? I'd probably ride with you but I aint sitting in the middle. I think I've seen some older show cars that way, but they also had rolls n pleats in the fenderwells and on the dash, firewall etc.

Now not to hijack the post but I'm thinkin' I need to buy some new shoes and i can't decide between PF Flyers and hard soled shoes.

So what should it be fairy flyers or brogans?

Ribbed roof + 70's "snap-in" sunroof = loads of urethane to seal.

It actually stuck up from the roof profile 1½". if it was completely flush, it probably wouldn't have looked so bad. It was also about 14" too far forward making for an even weirder look.

After searching high and low for a new roof skin to patch it, I concluded a big roll back (like the beetle pictured in this thread) was the lesser of the evils.

I cringe everytime I think about the sunroof. I eventually got rid of that 58 Ford.

If you must, then you should call my pal Rick Freeman at StreetBeat Customs. He could probably recommend and supply you with a VW style sliding rag. Not sure I'd be real hip about doing that in YOUR car though. Time to find someone that can weld.
