I blew the adjustable height cylinder on my computer chair a few days ago and replaced the chair with another one but still had the crippled one. It was right in my way and for a long time I've been wanting a low work stool to do brake jobs. No better mission than to recycle as we hotrodder's always seem to do. I took the damned thing all apart and threw away everything that didn't look like a stool. Cut the seat bottom "stem" way down and at first I simply bolted the old seat bottom to the cut-down [and welded] bracket but it just wasn't me...........to bulky. I grabbed the seat bottom and drove over to my buddy, Tom's shop. He and his lady run an upholstery shop but she was taking a nap...she's the upholstery lady, Tom just dis***embles and ***embles her work when she's finished working her magic. Well, ol Tom grabs my seat bottom and dissembles the upholstery and padding off it and I use his jig say to cut the plywood mount down to a semi-round shape. While I'm doing this, Tom grabs a hunk of 4 inch foam and ******es a piece off a roll of maroon naugahyde. He wrestles the material over the foam and proceeds to staple the **** out of his work, folds and all. Tom was going for a speed record, not a craftsmanship award and in about 3 minutes it was all done! Yeah, it looks like one of my wrapped Christmas gifts but it's done. We stood around and admired it and drank a couple cans of pop while I test-rolled it around the shop...worked great, even if it's a little, er, crude. I brought it home and added a steel plate screwed to the top of one chair leg to attach my magnetized took/bolt tray and cut down an old plastic drinking cup to use as a cup holder....well, hey! I get thirsty when I do brake jobs. Tom was kind enough to accept all the old stuff left over and we put it in his garbage can so I killed 2 birds.....got rid of the damned busted chair and made a deluxe work stool. SCORE!!!!!!!!! Nice touch on the magnetic tool tray and drink holder. The armrests from those chairs make great racks for walls to hold you name it. Was at a shop the guy had a dozen on his walls inside and outside. Old tractor seats adapt well to your chair if you want a vintage look. Myself,,,I got the bands old drum stool..
Not a bad day when you can take something broken and make something useful out of it and it beats dragging an upside down five gallon bucket around to sit on.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! I just totally got a visual of that!!! Rocky....that is freakin' cool!!! You could sell those!!
