Im having trouble deciding on which muffler to get for my 65 stang. I wont someting loud but I want to be able to drive it from Washington to Mid-Southern California to see family without having to were ear plugs for 2000 miles. So Basicly I want something that is louder than hell until you hit the cruisin speed 50-70.

THATs YOUR INTRO ? If i had to pick a " loud as hell muffler" USE NONE . On the wifes 64.5 mustang i got flowmasters took them off after hearing them and put on dynomax hemi turbos w, tri Y headers . But i was not going for the loud as hell tone .it does sound very similar to the bullet sounds in the movie , i would pick a sweet tone roar VS obnoxious loud anyday . But thats just me !

There are sights on the net were you can listen to sound bites of different exhaust combinations. This is one of them http://exhaustsoundclips.com/phpbb2/

You can do a search and find others.

You want the muscle car sound like that car chase in bullit ? i would buy the dynomax hemi turbos and as an added bonus they flow better check out the compare spec sheets w/ 2-1/2-pipe .seeing now that you have the cutout i take it you already have the headers? That also makes a sound differance the block hugger typer VS the tri Ys VS the old hooker typer , or the fenderwells ? The 289 and 302 were used in my search for the right sound before i bolted up rather got talked into the flowmasters and changed them out .Also when hearing other 289/302 set-up try not to compare what they sound like w/ CATS on them as i doubt your running them .I also had listened to other peoples set-ups w/ borla ,magnaflow , smitthy's , worloks ,etc .I have heard that the summit racing hemi turbo is the very same dynomax hemi turbo but its just made for summit to sell .

Run glasspacs...hell why have a car that sounds just like every other flowmaster equipped car on the road??? (they all sound alike to me anyways)

  9. I'm sorry to say that flowmasters suck. in some applications you can lose power when you put on a set of flows. My auto shop teacher is (or was) a muffeler shop owner and back in the day when the two guys who own flowmaster started the products were such junk that the went out of business trying to pay for all the warrentys. and they are still using the same basic design now.

  14. I disagree, we have installed them on a couple cars recently, they have that special "cowboy Cadillac" rap under power(raspy and obnoxious). Way to Redneck for my tastes.

So how would a set of smitty's glasspacks stand up against the flowmaster 40 series or hushpower II's? Remember I want my car to be loud and agressive but not obnoxiues to drive for more than 30 minutes.

the flow masters sound good at idle, but under hard load they have a
cackly sound.alot like a cherry bomb..i wish i would've used something else on the wagon. just my 2 cents.

Smittys glasspacks are quiet. Don't use them if you want loud and obnoxious.

spin tech mufflers are better sounding and better built than flow masters , everyone that hears them loves them. at idle and cruzing speed a nice deep tone jump on the gas and its like running open pipes. www.spintechmufflers.com
