Quick question, will wheelbase of my '29 ford tudor get bigger when i use a tube axle from Speedway motors instead of using a ibeam?

    Thanks Danny

The axle itself would have no effect on wheelbase. How the spring is mounted, if different from the original, could make a difference.

For example, a stock model A spring mounts directly above the axle....were one to mount the spring to the same point on the ch***is, but put the axle either behind, or ahead of, the spring then the wheelbase would change less or more.

  4. You are probably talking about axle width (will the tires stick out beyond the fenders), and you will have to ask speedway that question. Only Speedway will know how wide their axles are since they can make them any width.

If you did mean wheelbase then the post about the spring location is very appropriate.

Or he could look on their website, where the dimensions are listed.

No i do mean wheelbase, overhere in the Netherlands we may change a few things on a car but wheelbase isn't one of them. Then it's not the same car anymore they say. But if you install a tube, wheelbase seems to be the same spindles and all are inline with the leafspring is my guess. Want to go drive it full fendered.

I wouldn't use any axle from Speedway.

Spring is going to be in the same location, using all orginal parts of it.

Won't change anything. I did this with my T Bucket. Tracks the same, but looks cooler than a tube. Plus, after my accident, I figured if it happened again, the "I" beam axle would go into the cop car, instead of bending.

Going to be full fendered, won't see the axle that much. So i beam or tube doesn't matter for the looks. What matters is wheelbase that's what's most important..
If it stays original then i'm fine.

I'm in this discussion where i'm saying it doesn't change the wheelbase

LSGUN hit the proverbial nail on the head about Speedway. If you are splitting wishbones, don't use a tube axle, no matter where it is from.

  12. All good advice above, but remember, I beam and tube axles work differently in respect to the I beam works with all suspension well but a tube works best with a 4 link due to no twist side to side. Just think about it.
