hey all , im thinking about using a mid 60,s mustang tank in the rear frame rials of my 56 f-100 has anyone had any experience with this looks pretty straight forward , and fit looks good too , after relocating the crossmember to the very rear ,
I installed a 20 gal. 69 Mustang tank in my 55. Other than moving a cross member it's an easy install. Take look at this link. http://jniolon.cl***icpickup.com/mustangtank/newmustangtank.htm John's explanation of the install is the same way mine was put in.
Did it with my 67 F-100, couldn't be easier and works with the stock fuel gauge. And they're pretty cheap too, I got one with the sending unit on ebay for about $70. The filler hose is pretty big diameter, won't work with many aftermarket gas cap kits, I cut the bolt flange off an old mustang filler and cut the angle out of the tube... so its just a little nub sticking off the gas tank and I access it with a door in the bed floor.
We can get you those tanks here at gambinos, and have all the tank dimensions if you need them. 408 479 4812 give us a call we would be glad to help
There is a 22 gallon reproduction available for the 69-70 Mustang/Cougar if you'd like a little more range... Here's an install thread.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=322241
